Central Islip, N.Y. - ECC Pitcher of the Year,
Tyler Badamo of Dowling College, was named the East Region Pitcher
of the Year by both Daktronics and the National Collegiate Baseball
Writers Association on Thursday afternoon. Badamo was joined by 12
other ECC standouts who earned mention on one of the two
organization's All-Region squads.
Badamo has been dominant all season long, posting an earned run
average under 1.00 after an amazing streak of 72.2 innings without
allowing an earned run. After a complete game shutout over Franklin
Pierce in the opening game of the NCAA East Region Tournament
earlier this afternoon, Badamo now holds a 9-3 record with a 0.76
ERA on the season. The righty has also struck out 128 batters in
106.2 innings pitched and allowed only five extra base hits all
year.
Badamo, along with teammate and second baseman Andrew Abreu, were
the only ECC student-athletes to earn a spot on the First Team of
both All-Region lists.
St. Thomas Aquinas outfielder Rich Baerga was the third and final
ECC First Team selection by the NCBWA, while outfielder John Cruz
of Dowling and designated hitter Derek Hirsh of St. Thomas Aquinas
were First Team picks by Daktronics.
NCBWA Second Team selections include ECC Player of the Year, Tom
Tolan of LIU Post, Stanley Susana of St. Thomas Aquinas, as well as
Cruz and Hirsch. Susana, Tolan, Baerga, Mike Apreda of St. Thomas
Aquinas, Tom Bammann of Dowling, and JC Brandmaier of Dowling were
listed on the Daktronics Second Team.
The NCBWA All-Region Team also included Honorable Mention
selections. Brandmaier, St. Thomas Aquinas' Kenny Kirshner, and
Bridgeport's Brian O'Keefe received recognition on this list.
