Bridgeport, Conn. - Senior outfielder Nick
D’Angelo (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) of St. Thomas Aquinas
College has been selected as this week’s East Region National
Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Hitter of the Week
for games played from April 14-20, 2014.
The East Coast Conference Player of the Week, D’Angelo had a
major hand in the offensive explosion that saw St. Thomas Aquinas
sweep all three games played last week. In Thursday’s series
opener versus Queens (N.Y.), the senior blasted two homeruns into
the left field bleachers as part of a 5-for-6 day, with seven RBI.
He went 2-for-3 in both ends of the twin-bill in Flushing, running
his batting average for the week to .750, with a 1.250 slugging
percentage and eight RBI.
D'Angelo becomes the second Spartan to earn NCBWA East Region Hitter of the Week this season, joining Rich Baerga, who accomplished the feat on March 25.
In other NCBWA news, Dowling and St. Thomas Aquinas maintained their positions at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, in the latest Division II East Region Poll.
Dowling went 2-1 and St. Thomas Aquinas went 3-0 last week to keep their spots.
