Bridgeport, Conn. - Senior, catcher Mike Russo (Boca Raton, Fla.) of St. Thomas Aquinas College and senior, right-hander Bo Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y) of LIU Post, have been selected as this week's East Region National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Hitter and Pitcher of the Week for games played from April 29-May 5, 2013.
The East Coast Conference Player of the Week, Russo continued to dominate in the power categories, slamming four homers and a double with 12 RBI in the Spartans' 4-0 week. He went 7-for-15 overall (.467) with eight runs scored and a 1.333 slugging percentage, and upped his
league-leading totals to 10 home runs and 57 RBIs. Mike had the team's last at-bat of the week – a three-run walkoff homer that capped a comeback 15-12 win over Dominican. One of his blasts also hit high off the video board at Provident Bank Park.
Budkevics, the East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week, tossed a complete game shutout, allowing only three hits and striking out nine over seven innings of work on Senior Day against the University of Bridgeport. He held his opponents to a mere .130 batting average and walked just one Purple Knight.
