Philadelphia, Pa. – Nine East Coast
Conference baseball student-athletes have been honored with
selections to the 2012 Daktronics Division II All-East Region Team.
Four players, all from St. Thomas Aquinas, were First Team
selections, while five earned Second Team honors.
Both the ECC Player of the Year and the Pitcher of the Year, Frank
Salerno and Matt Marotta of St. Thomas Aquinas, were First Team
selections. Salerno led the conference in hits (72), runs (56), and
stolen bases (40), while also posting a .364 batting average, good
for second in the conference. Marotta was the ace for the Spartans,
finishing second in the conference with eight wins and a 1.95
earned run average. He also amassed 76 strikeouts to finish fourth
in the conference charts.
Joining Salerno and Marotta on the First Team are teammates Mike
Russo and Joe Antenucci. Russo won the ECC triple crown, leading
the conference in batting average (.381), homeruns (6), and runs
batted in (44). Antenucci also put together an amazing 2012
campaign finishinf with a .350 batting average to go along with 33
stolen bases and 30 RBI.
Second Team selections include two more Spartans, Stanley Susana
and George Wargo, as well as University of Bridgeport standouts
Eric Schlitter and Matt Ranaudo, and C.W. Post hurler Bo
Budkevics.
