Central Islip, N.Y. - St. Thomas Aquinas Baseball player Matt Matcovich has been named the 2010 East Coast Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The senior pitcher was already named Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
This year Matcovich was an ace on the mound for the Spartans, amassing a 6-2 record. The southpaw led the team with 66.1 innings pitched and 42 strikeouts on the season while compiling a 3.12 ERA. Matcovich made 13 appearances and threw three complete games. The mathematics major holds a perfect 4.0 GPA and was the recipient of the St. Thomas Aquinas Leadership Award for his dedication to the team and institution.
All male sport Scholar-Athletes of the Year are nominated for this award and are voted upon by the conference’s Senior Woman Administrators.
