Central Islip, N.Y. - With the conclusion of
regular season play, the fields are now set for the first-ever East
Coast Conference Men's and Women's Lacrosse Championships.
Semifinals for the men will commence on Wednesday, April 30,
followed by the women's semifinals on Thursday, May 1. Both sets of
semifinals will be held on campus sites. The championship games of
both tournaments will be held at LIU Post on May 3.
Tickets for all championship games will be $6 for adults and $2 for
senior citizens, students with a valid college I.D., and for
children 5-12. Children under the age of five will be admitted for
free.
During the championship games at LIU Post, the ECC will also host a
Make-A-Wish carnival run by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committees
(SAAC) of ECC member institutions. Carnival games and interactive
vendor booths will be available to entertain fans during the games.
All proceeds from the carnival will go to the Make-A-Wish
Foundation.
Men's Lacrosse
Despite tying with NYIT as Regular Season Co-Champions by finishing
with a 7-1 ECC record, Dowling earns the top seed in the tournament
due to a head-to-head victory over the Bears. The Golden Lions, who
currently have an 11-3 overall record, will take on No. 4 seed
Chestnut Hill in the first semifinal.
The Griffins, who are on a roll after winning four straight to
close the regular season, qualified for the tournament with a 5-3
ECC (7-5 overall) record. Dowling leads the all-time series between
the schools 3-2, including a 20-11 win on April 5 this season.
The other semifinal has No. 3 seed, LIU Post, traveling to face
their neighbor and rival, No. 2 seed, NYIT. The Pioneers come into
the tournament with a 6-2 ECC (7-5 overall) record after ending the
regular season with a big win over Dowling.
The Bears also enter the tournament riding a hot streak as winners
of their past seven games to finish with a 12-3 overall record and
tied with Dowling as Regular Season Co-Champions. One of the seven
wins was a thrilling, 9-8 triple overtime victory over LIU
Post.
Women's Lacrosse
On the women's side, LIU Post earns the top seed. The two-time
defending National Champion Pioneers wrapped up the regular season
with an unblemished 16-0 (7-0 ECC) record to extend their winning
streak to 39 games.
LIU Post's first round opponent will be No. 4 seed, Molloy. The
Lions earned a berth by finishing with a 5-3 ECC mark (9-6
overall). In the two teams previous meeting this season, LIU Post
came out on top 18-4.
The other half of the bracket has No. 3 seed, St. Thomas Aquinas,
travelling to No. 2 seed Dowling. The Lady Spartans end up
with the No. 3 seed after a 6-2 ECC mark and finished with a 12-4
overall record for the second straight season. Dowling earns a home
game in the semifinal after navigating the ECC schedule with a 7-1
record (12-5 overall).
The Golden Lions took the regular season matchup between the two schools by a score 13-7.
All games during the championship will be broadcast live. The
semifinal match-ups will be available on the ECC iHigh network (www.ihigh.com/eccsports). The final broadcast,
