ECC Women's Soccer Report - Week 10

Offensive Player of the Week
Dana Poetzsch, Molloy (Sr, M - Hicksville, N.Y.)
Poetzsch tallied two goals, including the game-winning goal, and one assist in the Lions' victory over STAC.

Defensive Player of the Week
Clara Karlsson, Bridgeport (Fr, GK - Umea, Sweden)
Karlsson helped the Purple Knights to a pair of shutout victories last week. On November 2, she made three saves in 2-0 win over Queens and followed with two more saves in a 4-0 win over Staten Island on November 6. Karlsson has six shutouts on the season and ranks third in the ECC in both save percentage (.824) and goals against average (0.60). 

Rookie of the Week
Alyssa Diaz, Daemen (Fr, D - Rochester, N.Y.)
Diaz scored the game-tying goal and game-winning goal in just over three-minute span late in the second half in Daemen's 2-1 win over Queens on November 6 to close out regular season play. She scored the game-tying goal at 66:20 mark and game-winning goal at 69:23 mark to complete comeback victory and to help Daemen finish 7-1-1 in ECC play. Diaz has totaled six goals and 16 points so far this season. She ranks in the top five for both categories among the ECC leaders and has the most goals and points for a Daemen freshman since Jamie Boyar netted six goals and recorded 16 points in 2016.

scored in both games for the Saints last week ... Is second on the team in goals (5) and points (13) ... scored the first goal (also game-winner) in D'Youville's 5-0 win over Lincoln on Thursday night ...

Kayla Camacho, Mercy (So, F - Valley Stream, N.Y.)
Camacho scored the game-winning goal in Mercy's 2-1 win over D'Youville on Saturday.

Annie Coogan, Molloy (Jr, M - Merrick, N.Y.)
Coogan recorded one goal and two assists in Molloy's win over STAC.

Tori DeLappi, Daemen (Jr, GK - Medina, Ohio)
Recorded three saves in Daemen's 2-1 victory over Queens on November 6... Ninth win of season in her 15th start of season and 19th start of her Daemen career.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The UB women's soccer team went 2-0-0 in the final week of the regular season to up its winning streak to five, as the Purple Knights are now 11-6-1 overall and finish with a 5-3-1 conference mark. Bridgeport did not qualify for the conference tournament for the first time since 2004, so now the team must wait until the NCAA Championship Tournament participants are announced one week from Monday to see if its season will continue. Last week, the Purple Knights were slotted number five in the East Region. Junior Evelyn Hammer is the team's leading scorer with 14 points on six goals and two assists.

Daemen: Wrapped up regular season slate with 2-1 Senior Day win over Queens on November 6... Trailed 1-0 before freshman forward Alyssa Diaz scored twice in 66th and 69th minutes, both assisted by junior forward Faye Panagopoulos... Diaz now has six goals on the season, tying former player Jamie Boyar's mark in 2016 for most goals as a freshman in a single season... Junior goalkeeper Tori DeLappi recorded three saves between the pipes to record her ninth win of the season... Since senior midfielder Grace Stranahan scored in the second half of a 3-1 loss at St. Anselm on Sept. 15, Daemen has outscored their opponents, 32-11... Daemen heads into ECC Tournament with 9-5-1 overall record, 7-1-1 in ECC play... The seven conference wins are the most for the Wildcats since they posted an 11-1 mark in 2011 - the program's final season as a member of the now-defunct American Mideast Conference... 110th career win for head coach Dan Dolan... Daemen honored midfielder Sam Hanes and defender Katja Meyer in a pre-game ceremony as Saturday's contest represented the final home game of their Daemen careers... Daemen will now travel to face Mercy in ECC Tournament semifinals on Thursday, November 11... First ECC Tournament appearance since 2018.

D'Youville: Saints fell to Mercy 2-1 on Saturday ... Jillian Bernas scored for the Saints, her 5th of the season ... Saints finish the season 6th in the ECC ... D'Youville will play at the USCAA Championships next week ...

Lincoln: Lincoln lost to D'Youville and Roberts Wesleyan last week to finish the season with an 0-14 (0-9 ECC) record. 

Mercy: The Mercy College women's soccer team went 1-0 on the week with a 2-1 win over D'Youville on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by sophomore Kayla Camacho who scored the game-winning goal. Mercy resumes action on Thursday when they host Daemen in an ECC Championship Semifinal game at 12 p.m.

Molloy: No. 18 Women's Soccer topped St. Thomas Aquinas, 6-0, Saturday, November 6 to finish the regular season 15-2 overall and 8-1 in ECC play. Senior Dana Poetzsch tallied two goals, and juniors Lexi Verni and Annie Coogan, sophomore Brenna Glover, and freshman Nicole Fabris scored one goal each in the win.

Queens: The Knights went 0-2 on the week to conclude their season 3-8-2 overall under second-year head coach Rafael Morais.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts women's soccer team beat Lincoln 10-0 to clinch the fourth and final spot in the ECC Championship. The Redhawks, in their first appearance since the 2016 season, will take on top-seeded Molloy on Thursday evening. 

Staten Island: In their 2021 season finale, the College of Staten Island Women's Soccer team suffered a shutout defeat in their first-ever meeting with the Bridgeport University Purple Knights by a 4-0 score. After two first-half goals that grazed the fingertips of Dolphins goalkeeper Sara Villacres ultimately found the back of the net, Bridgeport added two more in the final twelve minutes on their way to their fifth straight win. The defeat brought the Dolphins record to 3-14-1 overall, 2-6-1 against the ECC.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team went 0-1-0 last week, falling to Molloy, 6-0. STAC closes out its 2021 season with a record of 4-11 (2-7 ECC).
