ECC Women's Soccer Report - Week Seven

Offensive Player of the Week
Sam Hanes, Daemen (Sr, - North Tonawanda, N.Y.)
Hanes assisted on a goal from Alyssa Diaz in the 54th minute and then scored the game-tying goal in the 79th minute of a 2-2 tie at Bridgeport on Oct. 16. It was her first three-point outing since her one-goal, one-assist performance in a 3-1 victory versus Goldey-Beacom on Sept. 14, 2019. Hanes has now recorded seven goals and seven assists (21 total points) while wearing the blue-and-white. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Sarah Tappeto, Molloy (So, B - Merrick, N.Y.)
Tappeto tallied a goal in the Lions' 3-1 win over Pace and was a part of the backline, which shutout Mercy and played over 25 minutes shorthanded.

Rookie of the Week
Alyssa Diaz, Daemen (Fr, D - Rochester, N.Y.)
Diaz scored her fourth goal of the season in the 54th minute and was one of two players to assist on Sam Hanes' game-tying goal in 79th minute in Daemen's 2-2 draw at Bridgeport on Oct. 16. With her three-point performance, reaches double-digits in total points, the third Wildcat to do so. With the four goals, Diaz is now tied with current teammate Brooke Amato (Grand Island, N.Y.) plus former players Celina de Pablo Esteban (2017) and Alyssa Mercado (2019) for the second-most goals scored by a freshman in the program's NCAA era (2015-present.) The program's all-time scorer, Jamie Boyar, scored a program-best six goals in her freshman campaign in 2016.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Tori Delappi, Daemen (Jr, GK - Medina, Ohio)
Recorded eight saves in 2-2 tie at Bridgeport on Oct. 16.

Olivia Grande, Roberts Wesleyan (Jr, F - Clarence Center, N.Y.)
Grande scored the game-winning goal in the Redhawks' 3-0 win over Queens on Saturday.

Melissa Torres, Mercy (Sr, GK - La Mirada, Calif.)
Torres went 0-1-1 in goal with seven saves, a .875 save percentage, and 0.45 goals against average. The senior posted three saves in the Mavericks 0-0 draw at Assumption on Tuesday. Torres ended the week making four saves with one goal allowed at No. 21 Molloy on Saturday.

Lexi Verni, Molloy (Jr, M - Patchogue, N.Y.)
Verni tallied the game-winning goal in the Lions' 1-0 win over Mercy.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: TThe UB women's soccer team went 1-0-1 last week, so the Purple Knights head into this week's lone match, a home tilt with St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday, at 6-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the ECC. Junior Evelyn Hammer leads the team in scoring with 10 points on four goals and two helpers. Graduate student Andrea Bascilicato is next in scoring with nine points on three goals and three assists.

Daemen: Finished in 2-2 draw with Bridgeport on Oct. 16... Trailed 2-0 through early stages of second half until freshman defender Alyssa Diaz scored her fourth goal of season off pass from veteran midfielder Sam Hanes in the 54th minute... Hanes then tied the score at 2-2 in the 79th minute off pass from Diaz... Junior forward Tatyjana Scalisi credited with secondary assist... Junior goal-keeper Tori DeLappi recorded eight saves in the draw... First contest since a 2-1 victory versus ECC opponent St. Thomas Aquinas on Oct. 9 after match with Le Moyne set for Oct. 13 was postponed and now being reschedule... Despite the draw, Daemen women's soccer now stands as the only remaining unbeaten team in East Coast Conference play at 5-0-1 (6-4-1 overall) after Mercy's 1-0 loss at Molloy that same afternoon... First contest to end in a tie for the program since a scoreless finish with rival Roberts Wesleyan on Oct. 26, 2019 (721 days.), the third and final contest to end in a draw that season... Will now face College of Staten Island on Oct. 23 at 1:30 PM at Karrer Field.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Lincoln: Lincoln fell to 0-9-0 (0-5-0 ECC) on the season with a loss to Chestnut Hill last week. This week, the Lions will travel to Trinity on Wednesday before continuing ECC play with a home contest against Molloy on Saturday.

Mercy: The Mercy College women's soccer team went 0-1-1 on the week with a tie at Assumption and a loss at Molloy. Mercy was led by senior Melissa Torres who made seven saves. The Mavericks resume action on Monday when they play at Holy Family at 3:30 p.m.

Molloy: No. 21 Molloy went 2-0 to improve to 11-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The Lions topped Pace, 3-1, Wednesday, October 13, and Mercy, 1-0, Saturday, October 16. Senior Dana Poetzsch, and sophomores Brenna Glover and Sarah Tappeto netted goals against the Setters. Against the Mavericks, junior Lexi Verni tallied a goal, and senior Jackie Carty made two saves for her ninth shutout of the season.

Queens: Queens takes on Mercy College Mavericks on Friday at 11 a.m. in ECC action.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts women's soccer team shutout Queens, 3-0 on Saturday. The Redhawks will host D'Youville this week.

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island women's soccer team fell to Wilmington University, 4-0 this past Thursday. Then they traveled to STAC where the Dolphins picked up a huge win, 1-0. Next up they will host ESU on Thursday.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team went 1-1 last week, beating Felician 3-2, before falling to Staten Island, 1-0. STAC (4-7, 2-4 ECC) visits Bridgeport on October 23 (12 p.m.).
