ECC Women's Soccer Report - Week Two

Offensive Player of the Week
Brooke Amato, Daemen (So, F - Grand Island, N.Y.)
Amato scored her first goal of the season and fifth of her career just 18 seconds into the contest against Mercyhurst on Sept. 11, an eventual 1-0 win. It marked Daemen's first-ever win over Mercyhurst, snapping a six-game slide in the series.

 

Defensive Player of the Week
Tori DeLappi, Daemen (Jr, GK - Medina, Ohio)
The junior goalkeeper stopped six shots and recorded the second shutout of her Wildcat career in Daemen's 1-0 win over Mercyhurst on Sept. 11. DeLappi previously recorded a shutout in Daemen's 4-0 victory at Mansfield on Sept. 8, 2019.

 

Rookie of the Week
Lauren Zwolenkiewicz, D'Youville (Fr, F - Clarence Center, N.Y.)
Zwolenkiewicz scored the game-winning goal in the Saints' 1-0 win over Malone in the 65th minute. The goal was the first of her career for the forward.

 

ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Jackie Carty, Molloy (Sr, GK - East Islip, N.Y.)
Carty recorded two shutouts on the week to help the Lions go 2-0. The senior made one save in the team's win over Georgian Court and three stops in the win over Wilmington.

Sydney Cooper, Mercy (Sr, D - Long Beach, Calif.)

Cooper scored the game-tying goal in the second half off a free kick in Mercy's 1-1 tie at Adelphi on Thursday.

Amandajanes Fuchs-White, St. Thomas Aquinas (Jr, F - Red Hook, N.Y.)
Fuchs-White scored the game-winning goal in STAC's 3-0 victory over Bloomfield College last weekend. Fuchs-White was able to take a pass from teammate Rachel Brownell and tuck it in behind the right post and keeper Mia Phillip in the 29th minute to break the scoreless tie.

Sienna Nicolich, Molloy (Jr, F - Glen Cove, N.Y.)
Nicolich tallied the game-winning goal in Molloy's 1-0 win over Wilmington Saturday, September 11.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team heads into this action, road matches at Texas Women's on Thursday night and Dallas Baptist on Saturday evening, with a 3-1-0 record and on a three-match winning streak. Grad student Andrea Bascilicato leads the team in scoring with five points on two goals and one assist. Both of her goals have been game-winners. Freshman goalkeeper Clara Karlsson had a 1.00 goals-against average and had recorded one clean sheet so far in 2021.

Daemen: The Wildcats earned their first win of the season, a 1-0 shutout of Mercyhurst on Sept. 11. Sophomore Brooke Amato scored her first goal of the season and fifth of her career just 18 seconds into the contest. Junior Tori DeLappi recorded her first shutout of the season while making six saves. The Wildcats visit St. Anselm for a non-conference tilt Wednesday (Sept. 15) before opening conference play Saturday (Sept. 18) at D'Youville.

D'Youville: The Saints picked up their first win over a Division II team on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Malone ... It was also the first win in charge for Abby Pearson ... D'Youville fell in a midweek contest at Bryant & Stratton Syracuse ...

Lincoln: Lincoln kicked off the 2021 campaign with an 0-2 week. The Lions fell to Bloomfield and Felician. This week, Lincoln hosts Division I Hampton on Wednesday before traveling to St. Thomas Aquinas to start ECC play on Saturday.

Mercy: The Mercy College women's soccer team went 0-0-1 on the week with a 1-1 tie at Adelphi on Thursday. The Mavericks were led by senior Sydney Cooper who scored a goal. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they host Wilmington at 12 p.m.

Molloy: Molloy went 2-0 last week to improve to 4-0 on the season. The Lions topped Georgian Court, 1-0, Wednesday, September 8, and Wilmington, 1-0, Saturday, September 11. Senior Dana Poetzsch tallied her first goal of the season, and senior Jackie Carty made one save in the win over GCU. Against the Cougars, junior Sienna Nicolich netted her second goal of the season, and Carty made three saves for her fourth shutout of the year.

Queens: The Knights opening two games saw them finish week one with a record of 0-1-1 in non-conference play. The action resumes on Wednesday as they take on Nyack College at 6 p.m. before concluding the week against Bloomfield College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts women's soccer team tied Malone last Thursday and fell to Chestnut Hill on Saturday. The Redhawks will play away at Mansfield and Molloy this weekend.

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team earned their first win of the season in thrilling fashion as they registered a golden goal with 31 seconds to play in the second overtime to defeat the Golden Falcons of Felician University by a final score of 2-1. Then they traveled to play Southern Connecticut University, They were defeated by the Owls of Southern Connecticut University (SCU) by a final score of, 5-0. The Women's Soccer team will next host their second home game of the young season this Wednesday, September 15 against the Eagles of Post University

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team went 1-1 last week, falling to Nyack 1-0, before posting a 3-0 victory over Bloomfield College. STAC will next host Dominican College on September 15 (2:30 p.m.) and Lincoln on September 18 (3 p.m.).
