ECC Women's Soccer Report - Week Nine

Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Stevielyn Diggory, Roberts Wesleyan (Jr, D - Rochester, N.Y.)
Diggory led the Redhawks to a pair of wins by tallying five points last week. In a 3-1 non-conference win over Bluefield St., she scored a goal and dished off an assist. She followed with Roberts Wesleyan's first goal in a 2-1 win over St. Thomas Aquinas. 

Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Dana Poetzsch, Molloy (Sr, M - Hicksville, N.Y.)
Poetzsch tallied five points on the week. The senior netted a goal in the win over Post and three points, including the game-winning goal, in the victory over CSI.

Defensive Player of the Week
Melissa Torres, Mercy (Sr, GK - La Mirada, Calif.)
Torres made three saves to earn the shutout win in Mercy's 1-0 victory over Daemen on Saturday.

Rookie of the Week
Abigail Sindoni, Roberts Wesleyan (So, F - Sayre, Pa.)
Sindoni had three points in a 2-0 week for Roberts Wesleyan. She dished off an assist in a 3-1 win over Bluefield St. and scored the game-winning goal in an ECC win over St. Thomas Aquinas. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Brooke Amato, Daemen (So, F - Grand Island, N.Y.)
Recorded fifth goal of season versus Clarion on Oct. 26... Scored in 40th minute for the Wildcats' 1-0 lead... Established a new single-season high after scoring four as a freshman this past spring... Through just 11 games of her Wildcat career, Amato has now recorded nine goals (19 total points) and is one goal away from joining Daemen's "10 Goal Club" in the program's NCAA era (2015-present.)

Dominique Bono, Mercy (Jr, F - Islip, N.Y.)
Bono scored the game-winning goal in Mercy's 1-0 win over Daemen on Saturday.

Marina Pappas, Queens (So, M - New Hyde Park, N.Y.)
Down to the last four minutes of play and trailing 1-0, freshman Sarah Anderson found an unmarked sophomore Marina Pappas who blasted a shot over D'Youville goalie to tie the match 1-1 in the 86th minute of play. The Knights would go on to earn a 1-1 double-overtime draw.

Sarah Tappeto, Molloy (So, B - Merrick, N.Y.)
Key member of the Lions' defense, which shutout CSI, and tallied two assists in the win over the Dolphins.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: Bridgeport women's soccer has two matches scheduled during the final week of the regular season hosting Queens on Tuesday night and heading to Staten Island on Saturday. The Purple Knights, who are on a three-match winning streak and unbeaten in their last five outings, are now 9-6-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the ECC. Junior Evelyn Hammer leads the team in scoring with 14 points so far in 2021 on a team-high six goals and a pair of assists.

Daemen: Went 1-1 this week with a 2-1 victory over Clarion on Oct. 26 and a 1-0 loss versus fellow ECC contender Mercy on Oct. 30... Brooke Amato scored her fifth goal of the season and Katja Meyer scored her ninth career goal in the non-conference win against the Golden Eagles... In net, Tori DeLappi earned the 10th victory of her Daemen career... Wildcats then suffered a heartbreaker on the Hudson four days later when they allowed lone goal of contest in 59th minute against Mavericks, thus ending run as last unbeaten team in ECC and hopes as top-two seed in ECC tournament... Daemen is 7-2-1 in last 10 contests... Daemen concludes regular season with Senior Day contest against Queens at 11 a.m. at Karrer Field.

D'Youville: Saints tied 1-1 at Queens on Saturday afternoon ... Maggie Leeds provided the goal for the Saints, it was her team-leading sixth of the season ... The Saints dropped a midweek contest to Bryant & Stratton Syracuse on Tuesday ... D'Youville closes the 2021 regular season this week with games against Lincoln (Pa.) on Thursday and Mercy on Saturday, both contests at home at Dobson Field ...

Lincoln: Lincoln fell to 0-11-0 (0-6-0 ECC) on the season with losses to Trinity and Molloy last week. This week, the Lions will travel to Connecticut to face Bridgeport in an ECC contest on Saturday.

Mercy: The Mercy College women's soccer team went 1-0 on the week with a 1-0 win over Daemen on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by junior Dominique Bono who scored the game-winning goal. Mercy resumes action on Saturday when they play at D'Youville at 12 p.m.

Molloy: No. 19 Molloy went 2-0 last week to improve to 14-2 overall and 7-1 in league play. The Lions defeated Post, 2-1, Wednesday, October 27, and CSI, 6-0, Saturday, October 30. Senior Dana Poetzsch and junior Lexi Verni tallied goals against the Eagles. Against the Dolphins, Poetzsch, junior Sienna Nicolich, Verni, sophomore Lindsey McCarthy, sophomore Eleni Sofroniou, and freshman Alessandra Borsellino netted goals, and sophomore Sarah Tappeto registered two assists.

Queens: Women's soccer concludes the season with back-to-back ECC games. The Knights take on Bridgeport Tuesday before concluding the season against Daemen College on Saturday.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts women's soccer team has won six straight games dating back to Sept. 29. The Redhawks defeated Bluefield State and Saint Thomas Aquinas last week. Roberts will host Lincoln on Saturday to close out the regular season.

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer team played in their second to last East Coast Conference (ECC) matchup of the season. In what was also senior day, the Dolphins celebrated their lone senior, Mirsade Pelinkovic, who played three seasons for the Dolphins from 2018-2021. Thus far in her three years, she has scored 15 goals for CSI and tallied 13 assists while also serving as one of the team's three captains in 2021. As for the game, CSI felt the wrath of another top-tier team in the ECC, this time losing to the Lions of Molloy College, 6-0. The Dolphins now look to finish their season strong at home against Bridgeport.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team went 0-2-0 last week, falling to Goldey-Beacom, 5-1 and Roberts Wesleyan, 2-1. STAC (4-10-0, 2-6-0 ECC) closes out the 2021 Regular Season at Molloy on November 6 (3 p.m.).
