ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Eight

Offensive Player of the Week
Pau Echarri, Mercy (Sr, F - Madrid, Spain)
Echarri had a game-high five points on a career-high two goals with one assist in the Mavericks win over Queens on Friday.

Defensive Player of the Week
Felipe Baeza, Mercy (Gr, GK - Santiago, Chile)
Baeza made a season-high seven saves to post a shutout in the Mavericks 1-0 win over Jefferson on Tuesday.

Rookie of the Week
Ethan Picard, D'Youville (Fr, GK - Dayton, Ohio)
Picard made eight stops to pick up his third shutout of the season. He has made at least eight saves in four games this season and it was his second straight contest with eight stops.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Amaan Aslam, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr, F - Sheffield, England)
Amaan Aslam tallied STAC's lone goal in their 1-1 draw with the University of Bridgeport last week. Aslam booted two shots in the match with one going on goal and into the net.

Arthur Djengue Bille, Daemen (Sr, M - Paris, France)
Netted his first two goals of the season, including the lone tally in a 1-0 Daemen victory over Staten Island... both goals came in the opening 10 minutes of the contests, putting Daemen on the board first... his header goal in the 9th minute proved to be the difference in the first-ever meeting between the Wildcats and Dolphins.

Diego Meza-Baez, Dist. Columbia (So, D - Germantown, Md.)
Diego was the playmaker for the Firebirds in their matchup against Molloy, assisting on both of UDC's goals which resulted in a 2-2 draw. He played a key role in keeping UDC unbeaten in the conference.

Jesse Schleeper, Molloy (Jr, F - Westzaan, Netherlands)
Schleeper tallied two goals in the Lions' 3-1 win over Chestnut Hill.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The UB men's soccer team heads into its final regular season game at Staten Island on Saturday with a 4-2-2 conference record and a 4-6-5 overall mark. Senior Jesse Clark leads the team in scoring with 11 points on five goals and one assist so far in 2021.

Daemen: Lost to Mercy, 2-1, in double overtime on Oct. 30... Arthur Djengue Bille scored Daemen's lone goal in the 15th minute, his third goal in as many games... Marcos Lerma Escobar recorded a season-high nine saves in the loss... Daemen is now 4-10-0 this season, including a 2-6-0 mark in East Coast Conference play... Return to action Nov. 2 when they visit Lock Haven for a nonconference game - the penultimate contest of their 2021 season... Conclude season when they host ECC opponent Queens for Senior Day contest Nov. 6 at 1:30 p.m. at Karrer Field.

District of Columbia: UDC men's soccer remained unbeaten in conference play with a 2-2 draw against Molloy. The Firebirds remain one point ahead of St. Thomas Aquinas for first place in the ECC standings.

D'Youville: A second-half goal lifted Queens past D'Youville on Saturday ... Freshman Ethan Picard made six stops in goal for the Saints ... D'Youville closes the regular season on Saturday against Mercy at Dobson Field ...

Mercy: The Mercy College men's soccer team went 1-0 on the week with a 2-1 double-overtime win over Daemen on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by junior David Breitenbach who scored the game-winning goal. Mercy resumes action on Thursday when they host Dominican at 2 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 1-1 on the week to move to 9-6-2 overall and 5-2-1 in ECC play. Molloy fell to Nyack, 2-0, Wednesday, October 27, and defeated CSI, 1-0, Saturday, October 30. Sophomore Danny Muir tallied his first career goal, freshman Ollie Murch recorded his first career assist, and graduate student Nick Conklu made three saves for his fifth shutout of the season.

Queens: The Knights open the week with a non-conference matchup against Georgian Court on Thursday before concluding the season on Saturday in ECC play against Daemen College on Saturday.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts men's soccer team went 0-1-1 last week with a 1-1 tie against CSI and a 2-1 loss at Saint Thomas Aquinas. The Redhawks are now 6-5-3 this season. Roberts will host St. Michael's and UDC this week to close out the regular season

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team returned home for the first time in two weeks when they faced the Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks in their seventh conference match of the season. The Dolphins (3-9-2) took the lead in the seventy-second minute, but the Redhawks (6-4-3) quickly responded with the equalizer just six minutes later. The hotly-contested physical match, which saw eight yellow cards issued and twenty-five fouls committed between the two sides, ended without another goal scored by either team resulting in a 1-1 draw. The Dolphins then went on to play Molloy College in another ECC matchup they fell to the score of 1-0. They now look to finish the season strong at home against Caldwell and Bridgeport.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team went 1-0-0 last week, defeating Roberts Wesleyan, 2-1 to clinch a berth in the ECC playoffs. STAC (9-3-2, 6-1-1 ECC) closes out the 2021 Regular Season at Molloy on November 6 (12 p.m.).
