ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Six

Offensive Player of the Week
Jorge Umana, St. Thomas Aquinas (Jr, F - Orangeburg, N.Y.)
Umana tallied two goals and an assist in the Spartans' lone game of the week, a 4-0 victory over Daemen College. Umana was able to boot four shots in the match, with three going on goal.

Defensive Player of the Week
Dario Cruz, Queens (Jr, GK - Guadalajara, México)
Cruz was instrumental in the Knights 1-0 shutout win over Molloy College Saturday evening. After being untested for 80 minutes of play, the junior goalie was tested in the final 10 minutes of play as the Lions searched for an equalizer. Cruz made three spectacular saves to preserve his third shutout and earn his sixth win of the season.

Rookie of the Week
Bougary Sissoko, Staten Island (Fr, GK - Bronx N.Y.)
Sissoko led the Dolphins to two wins with a pair of shutouts last week. He stopped four shots against Holy Family and five against D'Youville, for nine total saves and a 1.000 save percentage.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Leandro Angulo, Staten Island (Fr, M - East Elmhurst, N.Y.)
Angulo was instrumental in helping the Dolphins' defense pick up two shutout victories last week.
 
Caleb DaSilva, Roberts Wesleyan (Fr, GK - Markham, Ontario)

DaSilva earned the clean sheet with five saves to help the Redhawks to a 1-0 overtime win over Bridgeport.

Dylan Ruiz, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr, F - Mexico City, Mexico)
Ruiz scored the overtime game-winner in Roberts Wesleyan's 1-0 win over Bridgeport.

Nicholas Tagios, Queens (So, F - East Williston, N.Y.)
Tagios returned to the lineup and made an immediate impact with his team-leading seventh goal of the season as the Knights shut out Molloy College for a 1-0 win Saturday evening. It was Tagios' third game-winning goal of the year, tied for second in the conference.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The Bridgeport men's soccer team heads into this week's play with a 3-5-2 overall mark and a 3-2-0 ECC record. Last week, UB lost road matches versus Nyack and Roberts Wesleyan. This week, the team opens a four-match home stand with a Tuesday tilt against # 1 ranked Franklin Pierce and a Saturday conference tussle with Daemen. Senior Jesse Clark leads the Purple Knights in scoring so far this season with seven points on three goals and one assist.

Daemen: Daemen lost 4-0 to St. Thomas Aquinas on Oct. 9, their only action of the week. Graduate student Jarrett Lecceadone recorded four saves in his season debut for Wildcats. Daemen now stands at 2-7-0 overall and 1-4-0 in ECC play. Daemen returns to action Oct. 13 when they host Chestnut Hill of the CACC to conclude a season-high four-game homestand.

District of Columbia: UDC men's soccer faced off against Mercy this weekend and tied in a scoreless double OT contest. This week, the Firebirds will host Shephard University during the week and head to D'Youville on the weekend to continue conference play.

D'Youville: Saints fell to CSI on Saturday 1-0 ... Freshman goalkeeper, Ethan Picard made six stops in goal for D'Youville ...

Mercy: The Mercy College men's soccer team went 0-0-1 this week with a 0-0 against UDC on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by freshman Eirik Elvestad who made two saves. Mercy resumes action on Saturday when they play at Molloy at 12 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 1-1 last week to move to 6-4-1 overall and 4-1 in East Coast Conference play. Molloy defeated Dominican, 1-0, Tuesday, October 5 and fell to Queens, 1-0, Saturday, October 9. Senior Kenneth Garcia scored in the 65th minute, and graduate student Nick Conklu made a season-high 11 saves for his fourth shutout of the season against the Chargers.

Queens: The Knights play host to Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday (Oct. 16) in ECC action. Kick-off slated for 11 a.m.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts men's soccer team defeated Bridgeport, 1-0 in overtime on Saturday. Dylan Ruiz scored the game-winner. The Redhawks will travel to Queens next Saturday.

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer team beat Holy Family 2-0 last Wednesday they then traveled to D'Youville. They officially have their first winning streak of the season, defeating East Coast Conference foe D'Youville College, 1-0 on the road in Buffalo, NY. The win improved the Dolphins record to 3-6 (1-3 ECC) Up next, The Dolphins play Felician on 10/13 at home.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team went 1-0 last week, defeating Daemen College, 4-0. STAC (7-2-1, 4-1 ECC) hosts Saint Anselm on October 12 (4 p.m.) and Staten Island on October 16 (2 p.m.).
