ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Three

Offensive Player of the Week
Vitor Gomes, District of Columbia (Sr, F - Fortaleza, Ceará-Brazil)
Gomes scored a game-winning penalty kick in OT to lead the Firebirds to their first victory of the season against Slippery Rock. He then went on to score two goals for UDC's first conference and first victory against St. Thomas Aquinas since 2017. He also registered an assist in the win over the Spartans.

Defensive Player of the Week
Matthias Kuhn, Mercy (Jr, D - Viernheim, Germany)
Kuhn scored a goal in the win over Staten Island on Saturday and helped lead a defense that posted two shutouts on the week.

Rookie of the Week
Ignacio Pericet, District of Columbia (Fr, F - Washington, D.C.)
Ignacio scored a goal in each of the Firebirds' wins over Slippery Rock and St. Thomas Aquinas last week.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Nick Conklu, Molloy (Gr, GK - Arlington, Va.)
Conklu made seven saves in the Lions' win over Roberts Wesleyan.

Christian Lewin, Daemen (Jr, F - Bobenheim-Roxheim, Germany)

Lewin scored two goals in Daemen's 4-1 victory over D'Youville to kick off their ECC schedule on Sept. 18. Lewin scored in the 36th and 74th minutes and led Daemen players in shots on goal (2) to help the Wildcats win their second consecutive contest. Heading into this contest, Lewin was looking for his first goal since scoring against this same Saints program in a 2-0 victory on April 30, 2021. Lewin has now recorded five goals and has appeared in 22 contests.

Peter Meyer, Molloy(Sr, M - Massapequa, N.Y.)
Meyer tallied five points on the week. The graduate student scored in the match against Adelphi and recorded one goal and one assist in the win over Roberts Wesleyan.

Nicholas Tagios, Queens (So, F - East Williston, N.Y.)
Tagios scored the Knights' first hat trick since the 2011 season as he led the Knights to a 4-2 win over Holy Family University. Tagios earned a season-high six points as he made all three of his shots on goal count including two in the second half.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team went 1-1 last week to move its season record to 1-2-2 and its ECC mark to 1-0-0, as UB split two matches at home falling in a non-conference tilt to Southern New Hampshire, 4-0, and defeating Queens College, 1-0, to open ECC play. This week UB hosts Molloy on Sunday. Chigozie Okorie leads UB in scoring with four points on two goals so far in 2021. Hannes Nilsson scored the game-winning goal versus Queens on Saturday night. Goalkeeper Clement Anet has two clean sheets so far this season.

Daemen: Daemen improved to 2-2-0 on the season and 1-0 in ECC play following a 4-1 victory versus D'Youville on Sept. 18. Junior forward Christian Lewin scored goals in 36th and 74th minutes. Redshirt senior Anthony Cupello scored in the 51st minute and junior defender Trey Buscaglia scored in the 87th minute. Up next is Daemen's long-awaited home opener versus Mercyhurst on Sept. 22.

District of Columbia: The Firebirds picked up wins over Slippery Rock and St. Thomas Aquinas last week to move to 2-4-0 (1-0-0 ECC) on the season. Vitor Gomes tallied seven points on three goals and an assist and Ignacio Pericet added two goals. This week, UDC continues ECC play with a trip to Western New York to take on Daemen. 

D'Youville: D'Youville went 0-2 last week with losses to Bryant & Stratton - Syracuse and Daemen ... Nick Dumond scored his 12th goal of the season in the 4-1 loss to Daemen ... The midfielder leads the ECC in goals, points (28) and shares the league lead with four assists ... The Saints head to Pitt-Johnstown on Tuesday before hosting St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday ...

Mercy: The Mercy College men's soccer team went 2-0 on the week with wins over Saint Rose and Staten Island. The Mavericks were led by senior Abraham Lopez and graduate student Pau Echarri who scored the game-winning goals. Mercy resumes action on Tuesday when they host Georgian Court at 3 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 1-1 on the week to move to 2-3-1 on the season. Molloy fell to Adelphi, 3-1, Tuesday, September 14, and defeated Roberts Wesleyan, 2-1, Saturday, September 18. Peter Meyer tallied a goal in the loss to the Panthers. Against the Redhawks, Meyer recorded a goal and an assist, graduate student Genarro Vilardi scored the game-winning goal, and graduate student Nick Conklu made seven saves.

Queens: Non-conference action continues for the men's soccer team as they go up against Chestnut Hill College in a midweek match-up on Wednesday evening. The Knights will resume conference play on Saturday afternoon as they go up against fellow CUNY College of Staten Island.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts men's soccer team lost to Seton Hill and Molloy last week. The team falls to 2-4 on the season. The Redhawks will host Mercy on Saturday for homecoming weekend.

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer team played in their first East Coast Conference (ECC) matchup of the season against the Mavericks of Mercy College on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. The Dolphins lost by a final of, 2-0, pushing them to a, 0-4 start overall and 0-1 in the ECC. The Mavericks continued their hot streak at home, now sitting at, 4-1 overall (1-0 ECC). Up next, the Dolphins play Bloomfield at home on Wednesday.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team went 1-1 last week, defeating Bloomfield, 2-0, before falling to the University of the District of Columbia, 4-1. STAC will next travel to D'Youville College on September 25 (2:30 p.m.).
