ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Two

Offensive Player of the Week
Nick Dumond, D'Youville (Sr, M - Lockport, N.Y.)
Dumon had a first-half hat trick on his way to an eight-goal, two-assist performance in the Saints 17-1 win over Villa Maria. It was his second hat trick of the season. He added two more assists vs Alfred on Saturday to finish with 20 points on the week. The senior leads the ECC in goals (11), assists (4), and points (26).

Defensive Player of the Week
Clement Anet, Bridgeport (Sr, GK - Coss le Viven, France)
Anet posted his first clean sheet in a Bridgeport uniform, making six stops in a 0-0 double-overtime draw at Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday evening. Clement's outstanding play has helped the Purple Knights go unbeaten in their last two matches.

Rookie of the Week
Leonel Zelaya, Queens (Fr, F - Amityville, N.Y.)
Zelaya recorded his first goal and the game-winning goal in the second overtime to lead the Knights to a 2-1 comeback from behind win victory over Bentley University. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Dario Cruz, Queens (Jr, GK - Guadalajara, México)
In the Knights 1-0 week, junior goalie Dario Cruz played 103 minutes while recording nine saves to hold the Falcons to a lone goal as the Knights won a 2-1 overtime thriller against Bentley University.

Matthias Kuhn, Mercy (Jr, D - Viernheim, Germany)

Kuhn scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Mercy's 3-1 win over Adelphi on Wednesday.

Rainiero Salas, Mercy (Sr, M - Panama City, Panama)
Salas had a goal and an assist in Mercy's 3-1 win over Adelphi on Wednesday.

Luis Felipe Santos, D'Youville (Fr, F - Salvador, Brazil)
Had a hat trick against Villa Maria as the Saints exploded for 17 goals ... Also added a goal against Bryant & Stratton Albany ... Second on the team in points (10) and goals (5) ...

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: UB enters this week on a two-match unbeaten streak with an 0-1-2 record after a 0-0 draw at Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday night in the team's only action last week. This week, the team opens a three-game homestand hosting Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday and opening its ECC slate versus Queens on Saturday. Grad. student Clement Anet earned his first clean sheet in a Bridgeport uniform stopping six shots at SCSU on Wednesday. Junior Chigozie Okorie is the team leader in scoring with four points on two goals through three outings.

Daemen: Daemen lost 1-0 at Slippery Rock in their only game last week, allowing the lone goal in the sixth minute of the contest. Senior goalkeeper Marcos Lerma Escobar made six saves in the loss which dropped the Wildcats to 1-2 this season. They'll face Le Moyne this Wednesday (Sept. 15) before visiting D'Youville Saturday (Sept. 18) to open conference play.

District of Columbia: The Firebirds fell to 0-4 on the season with losses to Mercyhurst and Gannon. UDC is back on the pitch when they host Slippery Rock in their home-opener on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. The Firebirds also begin conference play this week, as they host St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday at noon.

D'Youville: The Saints are off to their best start under head coach Brendan Murphy (4-0-1) after a 3-0-1 week ... The week included a 17-1 win over Villa Maria ... Against the Vikings, Nick Dumond scored eight goals and seven different Saints scored ... The Saints have only conceded three goals this season ...

Mercy: The Mercy College men's soccer team went 1-0 on the week with a 3-1 win over Adelphi on Wednesday. The Mavericks were led by senior Rainiero Salas and junior Matthias Kuhn who both had a goal and an assist. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they host Saint Rose at 3 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 0-2 last week to move to 1-2-1 on the season. Molloy fell to Caldwell, 2-1, in overtime Wednesday, September 8, and to Saint Rose, 2-0, Saturday, September 11. Freshman Matt Laya-Vetell tallied his first career goal against the Cougars, and graduate student Nick Conklu made seven saves against the Golden Knights.

Queens: The Knights won a 2-1 double-overtime thriller against Bentley on Saturday and will look to keep that momentum going as they go up against Holy Family University on Wednesday (Sept. 15) in non-conference action at 7 p.m. ECC play opens on Saturday as the Knights take on the University of Bridgeport. Kick-off slated for 6 p.m.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts men's soccer team went 1-1 last week in non-conference action. The Redhawks lost to Saint Anselm midweek but regrouped to win on Saturday against Stonehill. Roberts will host Seton Hill on Tuesday before heading on the road to Molloy for a weekend conference matchup.

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island's Men's Soccer team fell short in their season opener against East Stroudsburg University (ESU) by a final of, 3-0. They then came home to play Nyack college in the first annual Bayonne Bridge Cup!. They saw a second-half comeback attempt fall short as they fell to 0-2 on the season with a 4-1 defeat. Up next the Dolphins will travel to Orangeburg, N.Y. for their next match this Wednesday where they will face Dominican at 2 p.m.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team went 0-1-1 last week, falling to Bloomsburg, 3-2, before posting a second half comeback to force a 2-2 draw with Chestnut Hill College. STAC will next host Bloomfield College on September 14 (2 p.m.) and UDC on September 18 (12:30 p.m.).
