ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Five

Offensive Player of the Week
Anthony Bolivar Sanchez, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr, F - Caracas, Venezuela)
Bolivar Sanchez posted five goals and an assist in two games last week. Bolivar Sanchez netted a hat trick in a 3-1 win over Queens College and then followed it up with two penalty kick goals and an assist on the game-winning tally as the Spartans rallied to beat Mercy College, 3-2 in overtime.

Defensive Player of the Week
Orlando Zambrano Jr., Molloy (Jr, B - Flushing, N.Y.)
Zambrano was the leader of Molloy's backline, which recorded 1-0 victories over D'Youville and Daemen.

Rookie of the Week
Pau Echarri, Mercy (Gr, F - Madrid, Spain)
Echarri scored a goal against Bridgeport on Wednesday and at STAC on Sunday.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Jesse Clark, Bridgeport (Sr, F - Stratford, Conn.)
Clark amassed seven points on three goals and one assist last week helping the Purple Knights go a perfect 2-0-0 with wins over Mercy on the road and D'Youville at home. Jesse scored both goals late in the match to lift UB to the win at Mercy, and he followed that with a goal and an assist in Saturday's 5-0 home triumph over D'Youville. He now leads Bridgeport in scoring for the season with those seven points.

Vitor Gomes, Dist. Columbia (Sr, F - Fortaleza, Ceará-Brazil)
Gomes assisted the winning goal for the Firebirds in their victory over CSI and went to score two goals in a comeback victory over Queens College.

Jesse Schleeper, Molloy (Jr, F - Westzaan, Netherlands)
Schleeper had a productive week in the offensive third of the field. He drew the penalty that led to Peter Meyer's game-winning goal against D'Youville and tallied the game-winner against Daemen.

Javier Abadia Torres, Dist. Columbia (Sr, GK - Pamplona, Spain)
Abadia Torres had five saves in a shutout victory over CSI and two saves over Queens in a comeback victory. He posted a .875 save percentage on the week.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The UB men's soccer team picked up two conference wins last week winning at Mercy, 2-1, and blanking D'Youville, 5-0. The Purple Knights are now 3-3-2 overall and 3-1-0 in the ECC. Senior Jesse Clark was red hot on offense last week with seven points on three goals and one assist. Clark scored both goals in the Bridgeport victory over Mercy. This week, the Purple Knights are on the road for two matches as they travel to face Nyack in non-conference play on Wednesday, and head to Roberts Wesleyan for an ECC contest on Saturday.

Daemen: Daemen lost a pair of ECC contests this past week, falling to Roberts Wesleyan (2-0 on Sept. 29) and Molloy (1-0 on Oct. 2). Both contests were scoreless at halftime. Marcos Lerma Escobar recorded a combined six saves over the two contests. The Wildcats now stand at 2-6-0 overall and 1-3-0 in ECC play. They return to action by hosting St. Thomas Aquinas on Oct. 9 at 1:30 p.m.

District of Columbia: UDC won their fifth straight game and remains undefeated at home and in conference play with a 4-0 record. Next up the Firebirds will head to New York to face off against Mercy College on Saturday.

D'Youville: Saints dropped road contests to Molloy (1-0) and Bridgeport (5-0) ... Ethan Picard made 16 saves over 167 minutes played last week ... Picard was only beaten on a PK in the 1-0 loss at Molloy ...

Mercy: The Mercy College men's soccer team went 0-2 on the week with losses to Bridgeport and STAC. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Pau Echarri who scored two goals. Mercy resumes action on Saturday when they host UDC at 12 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 2-0 last week to improve to 5-3-1 overall and 4-0 in ECC play. Molloy defeated D'Youville, 1-0, Wednesday, September 29, and Daemen, 1-0, Saturday, October 2. Graduate student Peter Meyer netted his fourth goal of the season, and junior Dennis Mejia made two saves in the win over the Saints. Against the Wildcats, Graduate student Jesse Schleeper tallied his first goal of the season, freshman Elia Krieger registered his first collegiate assist, and graduate student Nick Conklu made six saves for his third shutout of the season.

Queens: The Knights travel to Rockville Centre, N.Y. Saturday evening as they take on Molloy College Lions in East Coast Conference action at 6 p.m.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts men's soccer team defeated Daemen last week 2-0. The Redhawks were also scheduled to play CSI but the game was postponed until Oct. 27. Roberts will host Bridgeport on Saturday.

Staten Island: Taking on East Coast Conference foe the University of the District of Columbia this afternoon the College of Staten Island Men's Soccer team was shut out in a 1-0 defeat. The CSI loss dropped their season mark to 1-6, 0-3 in ECC play. Up next the Dolphins take on Holy Family University on Wednesday.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team went 2-0 last week, defeating Queens College 3-1 and besting Mercy College 3-2 in overtime. STAC will travel to Daemen College on October 9 (1:30 p.m.).
