ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Four

Offensive Player of the Week
Seif Samy, St. Thomas Aquinas (So, M/F - Norwalk, Conn.)
Samy tallied two goals on three shots, as STAC defeated D'Youville, 5-0.

Defensive Player of the Week
Nick Conklu, Molloy (Gr, GK - Arlington, Va.)
Conklu made six saves for his second shutout of the season in the Lions' 1-0 win over Bridgeport.

Rookie of the Week
Cole Allen, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fr, M - Fort Walton Beach, Fla.)
Allen tallied two goals as STAC defeated D'Youville, 5-0, in their only contest last week.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Daniel Camara, Queens (Fr, D - Madrid, Spain)
Camara and his defense led the Knights to an undefeated 2-0 week. The Knights would start the week with a 3-1 victory over Chestnut Hill on Wednesday evening. On Saturday the Madrid native would cap off the finishing touches with his game-winner in the 70th minute as the Knights shut out Dolphins for a 1-0 win.

Kenneth Garcia, Molloy (Sr, F - Elmhurst, N.Y.)

Garcia tallied the game-winning goal in the 86th minute in Molloy's 1-0 win over Bridgeport.

Vitor Gomes, Dist. Columbia (Sr, F - Fortaleza, Ceará-Brazil)
Gomes scored the game-winning goal in overtime for the Firebirds in a 1-0 conference victory over Daemen.

Michael Rofail, Staten Island (Fr, F - Staten Island, N.Y.)
Rofail helped the Dolphins to their first-ever Division II win with a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Bloomfield. He tallied the game-winner in the second overtime period after assisting on the tying goal in regulation.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team heads into this week's play with a 1-3-2 overall record and a 01-1-0 ECC mark. Last week, the Purple Knights fell at home to Molloy, 1-0, and this week, they travel to Mercy on Wednesday and host D'Youville on Saturday. Junior Chigozie Okorie leads the Purple Knights in scoring with four points on two goals so far in 2021.

Daemen: Daemen went 0-2 this past week with 4-1 loss to Mercyhurst on Sept. 22 and 1-0 overtime loss at District of Columbia on Sept. 25. The Wildcats are now 2-4 overall and 1-1 in ECC play. Pontus Lundin scored the lone goal of week for Daemen via penalty kick in 13th minute versus Mercyhurst, his fourth career goal, all coming on penalty kicks. The Wildcats played a scoreless finish in regulation versus the Firebirds before Vitor Gomes scored in 97th minute for UDC. Marcos Lerma Escobar recorded eight saves in net for Daemen in the loss. The Wildcats are back in action to face Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday, Sept. 29.

District of Columbia: The Firebirds moved their winning streak to three games with a 1-0 overtime win over Daemen on Saturday. Vitor Gomes scored the game-winner. This week, UDC looks to remain unbeaten in ECC play when they visit Staten Island on Wednesday and host Queens on Saturday. 

D'Youville: Fell to 0-2 in ECC play with Saturday's loss to St. Thomas Aquinas ... Felipe Santos scored the goal in a 1-1 tie at Pitt-Johnstown midweek ...

Mercy: The Mercy College men's soccer team went 0-1-1 on the week with a tie against Roberts Wesleyan and a loss to Georgian Court. The Mavericks were led by Marco Passera, Archie Jones, and Matthias Kuhn who scored goals. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they host Bridgeport at 3 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions defeated Bridgeport, 1-0, Saturday, September 25 to improve to 3-3-1 overall and 2-0 in ECC play. Senior Kenneth Garcia netted a goal in the 86th minute, and graduate student Nick Conclu made six saves for his second shutout of the season.

Queens: The Knights went 2-0 last week and picked up their first conference victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Staten Island. They continue conference play with a midweek matchup against STAC before taking on District of Columbia Saturday afternoon.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team tied Mercy 2-2 at home on Saturday. The Redhawks will be on the road at Daemen and CSI this week.

Staten Island: The Dolphins took on Bloomfield College for the first time in over 35 years, the College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team pulled off a dramatic come-from-behind win to score their first victory of the season, 2-1 in double overtime. Then on Saturday Reigniting their long-dormant rivalry with fellow CUNY institution and ECC member Queens College, the College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team was denied their second straight win as they fell to the Knights 1-0. Next up for the Dolphins is the second of three straight ECC matchups to be played on their home turf as they will face District of Columbia on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team went 1-0 last week, defeating D'Youville College 5-0 on the road. STAC will host Queens College on September 29 (3 p.m.) and Mercy College on October 3 (1 p.m.).
