ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Seven

Offensive Player of the Week
Dylan Ruiz, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr, F - Mexico City, Mexico)
Ruiz led the Redhawks with a hat trick in a 5-1 victory over Queens. Ruiz now has 11 goals on the season, good for third in the ECC. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Caleb DaSilva, Roberts Wesleyan (Fr, GK - Markham, Ontario)
DaSilva helped the Redhawks top Queens, 5-1, by making nine saves on the afternoon.

Rookie of the Week
Eirik Elvestad, Mercy (Fr, GK - Oslo, Norway)
Elvestad made four saves to earn the shutout in Mercy's 2-0 win at Molloy on Saturday.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Vitor Gomes, Dist. Columbia (Sr, F - Fortaleza, Ceará-Brazil)
Gomes scored the winning goal in both wins over Shepherd and D'Youville this past week. He scored one goal against Shepherd and went on to score two goals against D'Youville in a double OT, 2-1 victory to keep the Firebirds undefeated in conference play. 

Matthias Kuhn, Mercy (Jr, D - Viernheim, Germany)

Kuhn scored a career-high two goals in the Mavericks 2-0 win at Molloy on Saturday.

Jesse Schleeper, Molloy (Jr, F - Westzaan, Netherlands)
Schleeper tallied two goals, including the overtime winner, in the Lions' win over Assumption.

Jorge Umana, St. Thomas Aquinas (Jr, F - Orangeburg, N.Y.)
Jorge Umana recorded a goal against Saint Anselm and an assist against Staten Island last week for STAC. Umana also ranks first in the ECC in assists (7), fifth in points (17), and seventh in goals (5) scored.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team heads into this week's action at 4-2-0 in the ECC and 4-6-2 overall after going 1-1-0 last week in a pair of home matches falling to number one Franklin Pierce, 5-1, and blanking Daemen, 2-0. This week, the Purple Knights play their final two home matches of the regular season hosting Georgian Court on Wednesday night and St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday afternoon. Senior Jesse Clark leads UB in scoring with nine points on four goals and one assist. He is followed by classmate Hannes Nilsson, who has seven points on three goals and one helper.

Daemen: Avoided sixth consecutive loss with 5-0 victory over Chestnut Hill on Oct. 13, followed up with 2-0 loss at Bridgeport on Oct. 16... Five-goal performance against Griffins marked Daemen's best offensive game since a 6-1 win over Pitt-Johnstown during the 2017 season.. Third time in the program's NCAA Division II era (2015-present) that they've scored at least five goals in a contest... Improved to 3-0 on the season when scoring at least two goals... Colin Archibald started the scoring in the 25th minute, ending a nearly 469-minute scoring drought... Michel Holscher scored in the 30th minute to give Daemen 2-0 lead at the half... Pontus Lundin kept scoring going in the 73rd minute via a penalty kick for the second time this season and fifth time in his career... Christian Lewin then scored in the 75th minute for his team-high third goal of the year... Derek Bartlo concluded the scoring brigade 19 seconds later, his second of the year... Goalkeeper Marcos Lerma Escobar recorded one save in his first shutout of his Daemen career... Senior Arthur Djengue Bille recorded two assists in victory... Allowed goals in 28th and 65th minutes in loss to Purple Knights three days later but Lerma Escobar made six saves... Held to one shot on goal or fewer for fourth time this season... Now stand at 3-8-0 overall, 1-5-0 ECC play... Continue campaign hosting Gannon on Oct. 20 at 12 p.m. at Karrer Field. It was the first shutout win for Daemen since a 2-0 defeat of D'Youville in the finale of their obscure 2020 season that was played last April 30.

District of Columbia: UDC men's soccer went 2-0 last week with wins over Shepherd and D'Youville. Vitor Gomes scored the winning goal in both wins. He scored one goal against Shepherd and went on to score two goals against D'Youville in a double OT, 2-1, victory to keep the Firebirds undefeated in conference play. Next up UDC will host Molloy College next weekend.

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College men's soccer team went 1-0 on the week with a win over Molloy. The Mavericks were led by junior Matthias Kuhn who scored two goals. Mercy resumes action on Tuesday when they play at Jefferson at 2:30 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 1-1 on the week to move to 7-5-1 overall and 4-2 in ECC play. Molloy defeated Assumption, 2-1, in overtime Wednesday, October 13, and fell to Mercy, 2-0, Saturday, October 16. Junior Jesse Schleeper netted two goals, and senior Oscar Magnusson and junior Andy Blanco tallied one assist against the Greyhounds.

Queens: Queens takes on Mercy College Mavericks on Friday at 3 p.m. in ECC action.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts men's soccer team beat Queens, 5-1 on Saturday. The Redhawks will play Pittsburgh Johnstown and D'Youville this week.

Staten Island: On Wednesday, the College of Staten Island men's soccer team battled Felician University to a 1-1 draw at Dolphins Soccer Park. The Dolphins then traveled to STAC where they saw their unbeaten streak of the last three games come to an end by the feet of St. Thomas Aquinas College, 3-0. Next up, the Dolphins will travel to Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team went 1-1 last week, falling to Saint Anselm 2-1, before defeating Staten Island, 3-0. STAC (8-3-1, 5-1 ECC) visits Bridgeport on October 23 (3 p.m.).
