ECC Men's Basketball Report - Week 12

Player of the Week
Jahmir Marable-Williams, District of Columbia (Jr, G - Philadelphia, Pa.)
Marable-Williams averaged 15.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 8.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game last week. In the Firebirds' win over Molloy, Marable-Williams posted the first triple-double in the ECC this season with 16 points, 11 rebounds,11 assists in just 26 minutes of play. He also added three steals and a block. In the game against Queens, he led the Firebirds with 15 points, six rebounds, five assists, and a steal.

Defensive Player of the Week
Grant Singleton, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr, G - Sumter, S.C.)
Singleton recorded five rebounds and five steals in STAC's 83-48 victory over Mercy. He also helped force the Mavericks into 22 turnovers and shoot 27.1 percent from the field on the evening.  

Rookie of the Week
Shamar Chester, Queens (Fr, G - Queens, N.Y.)
Chester averaged 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in a pair of Queens wins last week. He scored 17 points (7-of-10 FG) in the victory over Staten Island, including 10 points in the second half. On Saturday against UDC, the rookie notched 10 points to help Queens defeat the Firebirds.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Osbel Caraballo, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr, F - Bolivar, Venezuela)
Caraballo posted 19 points, five rebounds, and one assist in the Spartans lone game last week, an 83-48 victory over Mercy. The senior forward shot 60.0 percent (9-for-15) from the floor and 50.0 percent (1-for-2) from three.

Kyle Harris, Daemen (Gr, G - Buffalo, N.Y.)
Led the Wildcats to ECC road wins over Roberts Wesleyan and Bridgeport, extending the team's overall (11) and conference (13) winning streaks... averaged 17.0 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting over 60 percent both overall and from three-point range... made a team-high five three-pointers in both games, equaling his season-high... recorded season-highs in points (19) and assists (7) and matched his career-highs in steals (3) and blocks (2) in Wednesday's win over RWC.

Hartnel Haye, Dist. Columbia (Fr, F - Camden, N.J.)
Haye averaged a double-double with 17.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game to help UDC split a pair of conference games. In the win against Molloy, he scored 20 points grabbed seven rebounds, and had three assists. In the game against Queens, he registered a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds while adding two assists and a steal.

Dion Herrington, Queens (Jr, G - Englewood, N.J.)
Herrington averaged 16.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in the 2-0 week for the Knights. The Englewood native would tally his second 20 point performance of the season with 22 points in the victory over UDC.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The UB men's basketball team heads into this week's play with an 8-13 record and a 5-7 conference mark. This week, the Purple Knights will travel to UDC on Wednesday and host Staten Island on Saturday. Mason Williams leads the team in scoring averaging 13.5 points per game. He is joined in double figures by Malcolm Moye at 13.4 points per game and Time Dawson is averaging 12.7 ppg. Nemanja Zubac leads Bridgeport on the glass grabbing 6.2 boards per outing, plus he leads the team with 30 blocked shots so far in 2021-22.

Daemen: Daemen (16-6, 13-0) extended their winning streak to 11 straight games with road victories over Roberts Wesleyan (101-71) and Bridgeport (95-74). The Wildcats are outscoring opponents by 19.4 points per game during their winning streak and have now shot at least 50 percent from the field and three-point range together in five of the last eight games. Andrew Sischo continues to lead the league in scoring (22.3) and rebounding (13.1). The Wildcats entertain D'Youville (Feb. 9) in their only game this week.

District of Columbia: The Firebirds split a pair of games last week to move to 6-17 (5-8 ECC) on the season. The Firebirds started the week with an 92-64 win over Molloy, before falling 63-59 to Queens. This week, UDC hosts Bridgeport on Wednesday before hitting the road to visit Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday.

D'Youville: Bryson Birdsong and Jared Sullivan took advantage of the Redhawks' defensive holes Saturday afternoon at home, scoring 23 points apiece; but the Saints ultimately fell 90-104 to Roberts Wesleyan. Latrell Butler helped pace the Saints in a comeback attempt, scoring 13 points on the night.

Mercy: The Mercy College men's basketball team went 0-1 on the week with a loss to STAC. The Mavericks were led by junior Garrett Kirkland who had a team-high 16 points. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they play at Queens at 7:30 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 0-2 on the week, falling to both UDC and CSI. Molloy will take on STAC twice in three days, Feb. 7 and Feb. 9, before ending the week at Mercy (Feb. 12).

Queens: The Knights host Mercy College on Wednesday (Feb. 9) before hitting the road to Sparkill, N.Y. on Saturday (Feb. 12) as they go up against St. Thomas Aquinas College. The week wraps up against STAC on Sunday (Feb. 13), makeup game from January 8.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts men's basketball team lost its home game last week to Daemen, 101-71, but responded on the road with a 104-90 win over D'Youville. The Redhawks travel to CSI on Wednesday before returning home for a Saturday game against UDC.

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team saw a spirited second half comeback fall short as they lose to the Queens College Knights, 79-65 this past Wednesday night. The Dolphins then traveled to Molloy College, Where they survived a late-game scare as they hung on to beat Molloy College, 72-69. This puts the Dolphins back in the win column after dropping three of their last four games. CSI improves to 6-13 on the season (5-7 ECC), while on the other side, the Lions fall to 7-13 overall (6-5 ECC). Next up the Dolphins will host Roberts Wesleyan.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team (16-4, 9-1 ECC) went 1-0 last week, defeating Mercy 83-48 at home. STAC has a busy week ahead, facing Molloy on February 7 (7:00 p.m.), Molloy on February 9 (7:00 p.m.), Queens on February 12 (3:00 p.m.) and Queens on February 13 (3:00 p.m.).
