ECC Men's Basketball Report - Week Nine

Player of the Week
Grant Singleton, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr, G - Sumter, S.C.)
Singleton averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 3.0 steals per game over two games last week. Singleton posted 16 points at UDC and then 20 points against Staten Island. The senior guard shot 54.5 percent (12-for-22) from the floor and 45.5 percent (5-for-11) from three. He also added 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and six steals.

Defensive Player of the Week
Jayden Dewaal, Mercy (So, F/C - Toronto, Ontario)
Dewaal averaged 11.3 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game  as Mercy went 2-1 on the week. The sophomore opened the week with nine rebounds and three blocks in the win at Molloy on Monday. The forward then posted five rebounds and three blocks at Staten Island on Wednesday. Dewaal ended the week by tying an ECC-season high with 20 rebounds and added three more blocks in the win over UDC on Saturday.

Rookie of the Week
Messiah Mallory, Staten Island (Fr, F/C - Watervliet, N.Y.)
Mallory continued his excellent play by averaging 19.0 points and 13.5 rebounds per game last week. He also added 3.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting 61.5 percent (16-for-26) from the floor. Mallory's best outing of the week came in a win against Mercy in which he tallied 32 points and 16 rebounds. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Rian Carter, Roberts Wesleyan (Jr, G - Rochester, N.Y.)
Carter had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to help the Redhawks top Bridgeport, 113-105.

Sean Fasoyiro, Daemen (Gr, G - Houston, Texas)
Fasoyiro recorded his second double-double of the season with game-highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead Daemen past Molloy, 93-59. He added 14 points, six boards and three assists in a 15-point win over Queens to average 16.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game on the week. 

Amari Lee, Roberts Wesleyan (Jr, G - Newport News, Va.)
Lee stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals in Roberts Wesleyan's 113-105 win over Bridgeport. Lee also shot 72.7 percent (8-for-11) on the afternoon.

William Muller, Molloy (Jr, F - North Babylon, N.Y.)
Muller averaged 16.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and nearly one steal per game this week for the Lions. The junior netted 24 points against Mercy to start the week and ended it with 16 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double against D'Youville.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team heads into this week's play at 7-9 overall and 4-3 in the ECC. Last week, UB went 1-1 defeating AIC at home on Thursday to give head coach Mike Ruane his 400th career win and losing on Saturday in a high-scoring affair at Roberts Wesleyan in a game that both teams surpassed the 100-point plateau. This week, the Purple Knights travel to Molloy on Wednesday and host Queens on Sunday. Tim Dawson leads the team in scoring averaging 14.9 points per game. He is joined in double figures by Mason Williams at 12.8 ppg. and Malcolm Moye at 12.5 points per game. Moye leads UB on the glass averaging 6.3 rebounds per game.

Daemen: Daemen is 7-0 in ECC play for the first time ever following weekend wins over Molloy (93-59) and Queens (76-61). The Wildcats have won five straight games to sit at 10-6 on the season. The Wildcats have won 14 of their last 16 ECC contests and are unbeaten in 13 straight ECC home games. Andrew Sischo was named to the Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List and now ranks 24th in scoring and 10th in rebounding all-time in NCAA Division II. The Wildcats return to action with road games at St. Thomas Aquinas (Jan. 21) and Mercy (Jan. 23) this weekend.

District of Columbia: The Firebirds fell to 3-15 (2-6 ECC) with a pair of losses to St. Thomas Aquinas and Mercy. This week, UDC has just one game on the schedule - a trip to Staten Island on Wednesday for the first-ever meeting with their new ECC counterpart.  

D'Youville: The Saints went 0-2 this weekend, falling to Queens (N.Y.) and Molloy. Latrell Butler led the way over the weekend, scoring 24 points with six assists. The Saints are back in action Friday as they head to Mercy for a 7 p.m. matchup.

Mercy: The Mercy College men's basketball team went 2-1 on the week with wins over Molloy and UDC and a loss to Staten Island. The Mavericks were led by junior James Taylor Jr. who averaged a team-high 15 points per game. Mercy resumes action on Friday when they host D'Youville at 7 p.m.

Molloy: Molloy went 1-2 on the week, bringing the team to 4-11 on the season and 3-3 in league play. Molloy will host both Bridgeport (Jan. 19) and Roberts Wesleyan (Jan. 23) this week.

Queens: The Knights will be off until Friday as they prepare for Roberts Wesleyan in Flushing and will conclude the week Sunday against Bridgeport on the road.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts men's basketball team had a home win over Bridgeport for the first time in program history. The Redhawks downed the Purple Knights in a shootout, 113-105. Roberts will travel to Queens and Molloy this upcoming weekend.

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball picked up their third conference victory of the season this past Wednesday as they picked up a win over the Mercy College Mavericks, 78-53. The Dolphins fell to the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans by a score of 64-99. This loss brings CSI's record to 4-9 overall and 3-4 in the conference. Next up the play host to UDC on Wednesday Night.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team (12-3, 5-0 ECC) went 2-0 last week. First, the Spartans downed UDC 103-71 on the road, before returning home to defeat Staten Island 99-64. STAC next hosts Daemen on January 21 (7:30 p.m.) and D'Youville on January 23 (3:00 p.m.)
