ECC Men's Basketball Report - Week Three

Player of the Week
Andrew Sischo, Daemen (Gr, C - Guilderland, N.Y.)
Sischo recorded the 64th and 65th double-doubles of his career while leading Daemen to wins over Staten Island and Saint Rose. He averaged 30.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game while shooting nearly 70 percent from the field for the week. Sischo has scored 20+ points in 23 of his last 27 games, and 10+ points in 71 of his last 72. He scored a season-high 37 points in the win over Saint Rose, marking the 16th 30-point game of his career.

Defensive Player of the Week
Joey Atkins, Daemen (Jr, F - Watervliet, N.Y.)
Atkins recorded five defensive rebounds, two blocks, and a steal during Daemen's 83-71 win over previously unbeaten Saint Rose. He also played a key defensive role in the second half, limiting Saint Rose star Shane O'Dell to just six points after he netted 18 in the first half. Atkins averaged 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks in two Daemen wins last week.

Rookie of the Week
Nelson St. Louis, D'Youville (Fr, G - Port St. Lucie, Fla.)
St. Louis averaged 19.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steal at the Gary Miller Classic at Gannon over the weekend to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team. He had a career-high 28 points in D’Youville’s loss to Concord on Saturday


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Osbel Caraballo, St. Thomas Aquinas (Sr, F - Bolivar, Venezuela)
Caraballo posted 22 points, six rebounds, and three assists in a 76-73 loss to Saint Anselm College. The senior forward shot 60.0 percent (9-for-15) from the floor and 80.0 percent (4-for-5) from the free-throw line. He also recorded two blocked shots in 33 minutes of action.

Tevin Curtis, District of Columbia (Fr, G - Baltimore, Md.)
Curtis averaged 15.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game over two games last week. He shot 45 percent from the floor (9-for-20) and a perfect 100 percent from the free throw line (7-for-7). 

Garrett Kirkland, Mercy (Jr, G - Springdale, Md.)
Kirkland averaged a team-high 17.5 points per game on 52.2 percent shooting. The junior opened the week with a team-high 20 points on 6-for-12 shooting from downtown against Georgian Court on Wednesday. The guard ended the week with a team-high 15 points on 5-for-9 shooting against Pace on Sunday.

Ja'Kair Sanchez, Roberts Wesleyan (So, F - Syracuse, N.Y.)

Sanchez led the Redhawks to a comeback victory over Felician in the team's only game last week. He scored 21 points on 69.2 percent shooting (9-for-13) and added 11 rebounds for a double-double. Sanchez also added two assists on the evening.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team heads into this week's play when they will host St. Anselm on Wednesday night and travel to Bentley on Saturday afternoon, with a 2-3 overall record following a 76-69 road win over Post University in the team's only action last week. Junior Malcolm Moye leads UB in scoring averaging 12.3 points per game. He is joined in double-digit scoring by sophomores Tim Dawson at 12.0 ppg. and Ryo Kobayashi at and even 10 points per outing. Graduate student Nemanja Zubac leads UB on the glass grabbing 6.0 rebounds per game. Zubac has also blocked a team-high 11 shots so far in 2021-22.

Daemen: Daemen got back on track by picking up wins over ECC newcomer Staten Island (80-61) and previously unbeaten Saint Rose (83-71) to even their record at 3-3. Tuesday's defeat of CSI puts the Wildcats at 1-0 in conference play for the fourth straight season. Andrew Sischo produced two more double-doubles, including a 37-point, 14-rebound outing vs. Saint Rose. Sean Fasoyiro narrowly missed a triple-double against the Golden Knights, finishing with 23 points, 11 boards, and nine assists. Daemen returns to action Monday with a road game at No. 7/4 West Liberty - the Wildcats' fourth game this season against a nationally ranked opponent.

District of Columbia: The Firebirds split a pair of games last week to move to 1-5 on the season. UDC topped Georgian Court on Monday before falling to Wilmington on Wednesday. This week, the Firebirds begin ECC play when they visit Molloy on Wednesday. They then return home for a non-conference meeting with Bowie State on Saturday.

D'Youville: Went 0-2 at the Gary Miller Classic … Freshman, Nelson St. Louis was named to the All-Tournament Team … St. Louis had a career-high 28 vs Concord on Saturday … Saints return to action on Monday, Dec. 6 against Buffalo State …

Mercy: The Mercy College men's basketball team went 0-2 on the week with losses to Georgian Court and Pace. Mercy was led by junior Garrett Kirkland who averaged 17.5 points per game. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they play at Mansfield at 5:30 p.m.

Molloy: TThe Lions went 0-3 on the week, falling to Hofstra, Assumption, and Stonehill. Molloy will open East Coast Conference play on Wednesday (Dec. 1) against UDC.

Queens: After a bye-week, the Knights (1-1) return to action as they open a three-game homestand starting with Georgian Court on Monday (Nov. 29). They will conclude a non-conference play with a matchup against Caldwell on Saturday (Dec. 4).

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts men's basketball team won on the road at Felician, 95-92 last Tuesday. Junior Rian Carter hit a last-second three-pointer to seal the win. The Redhawks are back in action again on Dec. 4 against Walsh University.

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball team opened the conference portion of their schedule with a defeat at the hands of Daemen College, 80-61. The Dolphins remain winless through four games as the Wildcats improved their season mark to 2-3. Up next the Dolphins will host Adelphi.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team went 0-1 last week, falling at Saint Anselm College, 76-73. STAC returns to action on Dec. 1 at Stonehill (7 p.m.), before hosting Bloomfield on Dec. 4 (3 p.m.).
