ECC Women's Basketball Report - Week One

Player of the Week
Destiny Ryles, Dist. Columbia (So, G - Windsor Mill, Md.)
Ryles led the Firebirds to a 2-0 week to start the season. She averaged 27.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 4.0 steals per game. In UDC's victory over Goldey-Beacom, she scored a career-high 31 points and shot at 62.5 percent.

Defensive Player of the Week
Danielle Hippner, Molloy (So, C - East Meadow, N.Y.)
Hippner was a force under the glass for Molloy this week, totaling 11 blocks, 14 rebounds, and three steals. The sophomore set a career-high seven blocks against Chestnut Hill and pulled down seven boards against both the Griffins and Jefferson to open the season.

Rookie of the Week
Cecilia Lapertosa, Queens (Fr, F - Whitesboro, N.Y.)
Lapertosa has begun her collegiate career averaging 12.0 points per game with 6.0 rebounds per game as the rookie recorded 24 points and 12 rebounds in two games over the weekend. She led the Knights with 12 points against Chestnut Hill before notching another dozen against Jefferson with a career-high seven rebounds on Sunday afternoon.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Jenalyse Alarcon, Staten Island (So, F - Troy, N.Y.)
Alarcon picked up right where she left off last season and delivered two 20 and 10 performances for the Dolphins on consecutive days this past weekend. She was nothing if not consistent finishing both games with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Not only did she deliver two 20 and 10 performances, but she did so while shooting 64 percent from the field and dishing out 10 assists across the two games.

Paige Emborsky, Daemen (Gr, G - Newfane, N.Y.)
Shot 69 percent (11-16) from the field overall and averaged 15.5 points during a 2-0 week. Went 3-for-4 from downtown and totaled 17 points and four rebounds in a season-opening win over nationally-ranked Pace.

Sarah Ericson, St. Thomas Aquinas (So, G - Norwich, Conn.)
Ericson averaged 10.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in the Spartans' season-opening victories over Saint Michael's College and American International College. Ericson posted 15 points and 12 rebounds against St. Mike's and followed it up with a 5-point, 11-rebound performance against AIC.

Brianne Moxley, D'Youville (Jr, G - Penfield, N.Y.)
Moxley had an outstanding showing for the Saints in their season opener, scoring a team-high 21 points and playing all 40 minutes. The Penfield, N.Y. native was impressive from the free throw line, shooting 81.8 percent and going 9-for-11 from the stripe. Moxley was also credited with one steal, three assists, and one block in the season opener.

Katie Wall, Mercy (Sr, G - Wappingers Falls, N.Y.)
Wall averaged a team-high 15.5 points per game with 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as Mercy went 1-1 this week. The senior opened the week with 16 points and four rebounds in the win over AIC on Friday. The guard ended the week with 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists against Saint Michael's on Saturday.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen opened the 2022-23 season with wins over nationally-ranked Pace (52-45) and Felician (72-60) at the Redhawks Classic hosted by Roberts Wesleyan. Newcomer Paige Emborsky (Newfane, N.Y.) connected on 6-of-9 three-pointers over the two games and averaged a team-high 15.5 points. She netted 17 points in the win over Pace. The Wildcats will host two Northeast-10 teams this week. They will take on Le Moyne in their 2022-23 home opener on Wednesday. Le Moyne comes to town sporting a 2-0 record. The Dolphins went 17-8 last year and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

District of Columbia: The Firebirds went 2-0 on the week to open up their season with wins over Wilmington and Goldey-Beacom. They will face off against Holy Family, Indiana (Pa.) and Georgian Court this upcoming week.

D'Youville: The Saints picked up a season-opening victory over Mansfield, defeating the Mountaineers 60-52. Brianne Moxley paced the Saints offensively with 21 points. D'Youville is back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 16 as they travel to Gannon University. They are then back home on Saturday, Nov. 16 to take on the Knights of St. Mike's.

Mercy: The Mercy College women's basketball team went 1-1 on the week with a win over AIC and a loss to Saint Michael's. Mercy was led by senior Katie Wall who averaged 15.5 points per game. Mercy resumes action on Wednesday when they play at Caldwell at 5:30 p.m.

Molloy: No team notes submitted. 

Queens: Queens dropped both of their games in the ECC/CACC Challenge to begin the season in Philadelphia. The Knights host their first game of the season as Post comes to town on Thursday evening before concluding the week with a road game against AIC Sunday afternoon.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team opened the season at home for the Redhawks Classic. The Redhawks fell to Felician (80-61) and Pace (70-55). Roberts will head to Mansfield on Tuesday for a non-conference match at 5:30 p.m.

Staten Island: No team notes submitted. 

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team (2-0) opened its 2022-23 season, sweeping the STAC Tip-Off Classic with victories over Saint Michael's College, 80-56 and American International College, 78-54. STAC will next be in action on November 16 (7:00 p.m.) at Dominican and November 19 (12:00 p.m.) at Post.
