ECC Softball Report - Week Three

Player of the Week
Sydney Johnston, Mercy (Sr, C - Virginia Beach, Va.)
Johnston hit .750 (6-for-8) with a team-high six RBI in a 2-0 week for Mercy. The senior added three runs, a home run, and a stolen base. Johnston went 3-for-4 with two runs, a home run, and two RBI in game one against Bloomfield on Saturday. The senior ended the week going 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run in the game two win over Bloomfield on Saturday.

Pitcher of the Week
Amanda King, Molloy (Sr, P/UTL - Guilford, Conn.)
King tossed three complete games and compiled a 1.75 ERA with over three strikeouts per seven innings. The graduate student struck out six batters against Hillsdale, allowing just one earned run. At the plate, she hit .400 with six hits, three doubles, and an RBI while scoring seven runs.

Rookie of the Week
Emily McGurk, Molloy (Fr, IF/C - Babylon, N.Y.)
McGurk hit .556 on the week for the Lions, totaling five hits and driving in two runs. The freshman hit her first career home run in her first at-bat at Bob Klein Flied this weekend against Jefferson, going 4-for-5 in the doubleheader with two RBI, two runs scored, and the homer.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Anissa Acosta, Staten Island (So, 1B/3B - Los Angeles, Calif.)
Acosta hit safely in five out of six games this week and had two multiple-hit games for the Dolphins. She finished the week with five extra-base hits including three home runs in CSI's four games this past weekend. For the week, Acosta hit .368 and had nine RBI with an on-base percentage of .455.

Gianna Adamo, D'Youville (So, - Lockport, NY)
Hit nearly .500 for the week, ending it on a five-game hitting streak with 4 multi-hit games, was also a perfect 4-4 on stolen bases

Alex Burns, Molloy (Sr, OF - Baldwin, N.Y.)
Burns drove in a team-leading eight runs on the week and hit .353 at the plate. The senior collected a hit in five of six games, including two games of .500 performances at the plate.

Elyse Marcano, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fr, UTL - Middletown, N.Y.)
Marcano hit .429 last week, with six hits in 14 at-bats. She also recorded three RBI and two runs scored while also playing stellar defense at second base.

ECC Team Notes

D'Youville: No team notes submitted.

Mercy: The Mercy College softball team went 2-0 on the week with a sweep of Bloomfield. The Mavericks were led by senior Sydney Johnston who had a team-high six RBI. Mercy resumes action on Tuesday when they play at Adelphi at 3 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 3-3 on the week, finishing off the annual spring break trip with a victory over Slippery Rock before sweeping Jefferson at home in a doubleheader. Molloy will face Staten Island (Mar. 21), Bridgeport (Mar. 25), and Georgian Court (Mar. 26) this week.

Queens: The Dolphins opened this week's slate with a win against Holy Family on Thursday, but they failed to pick up another victory after that. Anissa Acosta homered three times and drove in nine runs for the Dolphins this week while Mariah Carcano hit safely in all six games the team played.

Staten Island: The Dolphins spent the week at The Spring Games in Florida where they played eight games over the course of five days. The Dolphins went 1-7 in those eight contests and are now 3-7 on the season.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Softball team (6-6) went 2-4 last week, with victories against Bentley (6-1) and Bloomfield (8-0) in Florida. STAC returns to action on March 22 against Saint Anselm (2 p.m./4 p.m.) and on March 26 at Felician (2:30 p.m./4:30 p.m.).
