Softball: Bentley Rallies for 6-5 Win over Molloy, Drops 2nd Game of Day to Shepherd

LEESBURG, Fla. – Senior second baseman Katherine Noftall (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich HS) and junior right fielder Kylee Amato (Bergenfield, N.J./Acad. of the Holy Angels) scored sixth inning runs as Bentley University came from behind for a 6-5 win over Molloy College in non-conference softball on the Sleepy Hollow Field Tuesday morning.

The Falcons were blanked by Shepherd University, 8-0 in five innings, during their second game of the day.

Down 5-3 after the Lions scored four runs in the top of the fifth, Bentley got one run back in the bottom half of the inning. Senior center fielder Sam Petow (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) scored on a bases-loaded single by senior first baseman Kaylee Mankins (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS).

In the sixth, after a hit batter and two singles loaded the bases with no outs, Petow drew a bases-loaded walk, forcing in Noftall with the tying run. Sophomore left fielder Jordan Krause (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro HS) hit into a fielders choice and Amato came in with the go-ahead run.

Sophomore Taylor O'Brien (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia HS), who pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to lock down the win.

Eight different Falcons had a hit with Amato the only Falcon with two.

Bentley had no answer for senior righty Katie Laing (Jefferson, Md.) in game two as she scattered two singles while striking out four. Junior shortstop Samantha Grizzaffi (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield HS) had an infield single in the third and classmate Lauren Massry (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker HS) singled to center in the fifth.

Shepherd jumped on top with four runs in the first, the big blow being a three-run double by designated hitter Cameron Davis. The 13-3 Rams added four more in the third inning, using three hits and two sacrifice flies.

Bentley, 7-5, will return to action Thursday with games against Indianapolis and Post University.
