ECC Men's Tennis Report - Week Four

Player of the Week
Eduard Simo, St. Thomas Aquinas (Gr - Barcelona, Spain)
Eduard Simo, down 4-5 and serving, fought off three match points in his singles match with Ruben Acuna to take the game and the momentum, ultimately winning the third set 7-5 to win the match for STAC. Simo also picked up a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles. 

 

Rookie of the Week
Ludovico Truffelli, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fr - Bologna, Italy)
Truffelli went 2-0 in his doubles and singles matches last week against Edinboro, helping the Spartans to a 4-3 victory. Truffelli picked up a 6-0 doubles victory over the team of Bruno Sabio & Rocco Palombarini, with partner Eduard Simo. He then scored a 7-5, 6-4 singles win over Kaio Sacchi.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Mortiz Borges, Queens (Sr - Hunxe, Germany)
Promoted to No. 1 doubles, Borges picked up a 6-3 victory to start the afternoon against Edinboro. Borges would conclude the afternoon 2-0 with a two-set victory over Kaio Sacchi to the score of 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.

Kareem Rashad, Queens (Jr - Alexandria, Egypt)
Rashad won his second straight singles match, helping the Knights defeat Edinboro 5-2 Thursday afternoon. The junior defeated Bruno Sabia 6-3, 6-4 with a two-set sweep at the No. 1 spot.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen picked up their first win of the season with a 7-2 defeat of Division III Houghton last Wednesday. A Friday night match vs. Pitt-Greensburg was postponed due to hazardous travel conditions, but the Wildcats made it to St. Bonaventure Saturday where they fell 7-0. The Wildcats (1-6, 0-0 ECC) host St. Vincent this Saturday evening in their only match this week.

District of Columbia: The Firebirds fell to 2-5 after being swept, 7-0, by Division I Navy on Sunday morning. This week, UDC will host Dominican in non-conference action on Tuesday, before starting ECC play with a road match at Queens on Saturday.

Queens: Men's tennis host Adelphi on Tuesday in regional action before opening East Coast Conference play against District of Columbia Saturday afternoon.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team (7-1) earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Edinboro last week. STAC returns to action in Florida against Quincy (Mar. 14), Rockhurst (Mar. 15), Bentley (Mar. 17) and North Dakota (Mar. 18) as part of the team's annual Spring Break tip.
