ECC Women's Basketball Report - Week Three

Player of the Week
Samirah Henderson, Bridgeport (Gr, G - Rahway, N.J.)
Henderson helped UB go 1-1 last week averaging 25.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game. Samirah was red-hot shooting the basketball last week, as she connected on 60.7 percent of her field goal attempts (17-of-28), plus she went 12-of-20 from behind the three-point line. Against Post, Henderson scored a career and ECC season-high 31 points. She followed that up with 19 points in a win over Nyack in the Purple Knights' home opener on Saturday. So far this season, Samirah leads UB in scoring, averaging 18.8 points per game.

Defensive Player of the Week
Stephanie McBride, Bridgeport (Jr, C - Brooklyn, N.Y.)
McBride averaged 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game last week helping UB go 1-1. She also added one steal on the week, plus averaged a double-double on the week scoring 16.5 points in the two outings. On the season, Stephanie is averaging just shy of a double-double leading the Purple Knights on the glass, averaging 9.4 rebounds per game, plus 14.8 points per game. She also leads the team with a total of 11 blocks.

Rookie of the Week
Anna Jankovic, D'Youville (Fr, G - Averill Park, N.Y.)
Jankovic had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead the Saints in both categories against Bryant & Stratton Buffalo. Jankovic has now posted back-to-back 20-point games. The first-year Saint was also efficient, shooting 7-of-14 from the floor. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Gabriella Aspuru, Molloy (Sr, G - Farmingville, N.Y.)
Aspuru averaged 16 points and seven rebounds last week. The senior recorded a career-high 27 points in the Lions' victory over No. 25 Dominican.

Safiyyah Lee, Molloy (Gr, F - Voorhees, N.J.)
Lee averaged 18 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in two games. The graduate student, who shot 50 percent from the field, tallied 21 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Adelphi and 15 points and 11 rebounds in the victory over No. 25 Dominican.

Brianna Meekins, Bridgeport (So, F - Bridgeport, Conn.)
Meekins averaged 11.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last week helping Bridgeport go 1-1. In Saturday's win over Nyack in UB's home opener, Brianna had an impressive double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Taryn Wilson, Roberts Wesleyan (Sr, G - Honeoye Falls, N.Y.)
Titus Wilson scored 16 points and added seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal in Roberts Wesleyan's loss to Le Moyne.

ECC Team Notes

Bridgeport: The Bridgeport women's basketball team went 1-1 last year, falling at Post University and defeating Nyack in the team's home opener on Saturday afternoon. UB enters this week's action, a home game versus Pace on Friday night, with a 2-3 record in the early going of this season. Graduate student Samirah Henderson leads four UB players in double-digit scoring at 18.8 points per game. Henderson netted a career-high 31 points at Post last Tuesday night. She is joined in double figures by classmate Janiece Loney at 16.0 ppg., and by sophomores Stephanie Henderson at 14.8 ppg., and Brianna Meekins at 12.4 points per outing. Henderson is averaging nearly a double-double as she lead UB in rebounding averaging 9.4 boards per game, plus she has a team-high 11 blocked shots.

Daemen: Daemen sits at 2-2 and the Wildcats have been idle since splitting two games at the Lady Chap Classic (Nov. 19-20) hosted by Lubbock Christian. Senior forward Katie Titus has recorded three double-doubles and leads the team in scoring (17.0) and rebounding (9.8). The Wildcats were ranked sixth in last week's D2SIDA East Region media poll. They'll return to action Tuesday (Nov. 30) when they host regionally-ranked Stonehill in their first home game of the 2021-22 season.

District of Columbia: After being idle last week, UDC is back in action with three games this week. On Monday the Firebirds travel to take on Bloomfield. Another road trip to Molloy to begin ECC play follows on Wednesday. UDC wraps up the week with a home game on Saturday against Bowie State.

D'Youville: Lost to Bryant & Stratton Buffalo 64-57 on Tuesday … Anna Jankovic had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead the Saints … Saints play Villa Maria and Bryant & Stratton Albany this week …

Mercy: The Mercy College women's basketball team went 0-2 on the week with losses to Caldwell and Assumption. The Mavericks were led by junior Katie Wall who averaged 13.5 points per game. Mercy resumes action on Saturday when they play at Bloomfield at 1 p.m.

Molloy: The Lions went 2-0 last week to improve to 3-3 overall. Molloy defeated Adelphi, 71-63, Tuesday, November 23, and #25 Dominican, 71-63, Sunday, November 28. Graduate student Safiyyah Lee recorded a double-double (21 points and 10 rebounds) and graduate student Maya Thomas tallied 15 points in the win over the Panthers. Against the Chargers, senior Gabriella Aspuru netted a career-high 27 points, and Lee registered 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Queens: The Knights homestand continues on Wednesday (Dec. 1) as they welcome American International College in non-conference action.

Roberts Wesleyan: The Roberts women's basketball team dropped a 60-51 game to Le Moyne on Sunday afternoon. The Redhawks are now 2-3 this season. Next up is a Dec. 8 matchup on the road against Daemen.

Staten Island: The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team saw yet another game come down to the final minutes tonight as they erased a 20-point second-half deficit to defeat Nyack College, 61-58. The Dolphins evened their record at 2-2. The Dolphins then traveled to Connecticut to face the Eagles of Post University where they lost 88-58. Up next the Dolphins will travel to Caldwell.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team went 0-2 last week. First, the Spartans fell to Georgian Court, 77-67, before losing at New Haven, 56-43. STAC hosts Post on Dec. 1 (5:30 p.m.) and then travels to Chestnut Hill on Dec. 5 (1 p.m.).
