ECC Indoor Track & Field Report - Week Seven

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Alec Valle, Georgian Court (Gr - Middletown, N.Y.)
Valle broke the GCU school record in the 5,000m with a time of 15:30.11 for a fourth place finish at the Liberty Open. He now sits fourth in the conference in the event.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Jan Volkmar, Georgian Court (So - Eschwege, Germany)
Volkmar won the pole vault at the Liberty Open, clearing 4.65m to defeat a handful of DI athletes in the process. He also ran 8.65 in the 60m hurdles prelims, advancing to finals, but did not start due to jumping in the pole vault.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Kassandra Nolet, Daemen (Gr - Fort Erie, Ontario)
At the Brockport Multi Invitational, Nolet ran the 3,000 meters for the first time this season and placed second out of 32 runners with a personal best time of 10:33.14, eclipsing her previous time at an indoor event of 10:41.63 that she posted at the Kane Invitational last year. Nolet also ran the 800 meters at an indoor event for the first time in her career and placed fourth out of 33 runners with a time of 2:22.16, just two seconds shy of the program record (2:20.48) set by Savannah Warner at the 2018 East Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. Nolet has run six races this season and has placed in the top five in all six races.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Aniyah Russell, Georgian Court (Sr - Jackson, N.J.)
Russell improved upon her season-best mark in the long jump at the Liberty Open with her mark of 5.97m. That's an NCAA provisional qualifying mark that currently has her ranked 10th in Division II and leads both the ECC and the East Region.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men
Jason Ferguson, Molloy (Fr - Westbury, N.Y.)
Ferguson set a program record in the long jump with a leap of 6.83m at the Scarlet Knight Open. The freshman finished sixth in the college flight, topping all other Division II competitors.

Hakeem Griffiths, Queens (So - Portmore, Jamaica)
In the long jump at the DeSchriver Invitational, Griffiths placed 12th with a jump of 6.04m, and in the triple jump, the sophomore matched a career-best jump of 13.38m on the afternoon.

Women
Shalom Adzakro, Georgian Court (Fr - Elizabeth, N.J.)
Was first out for finals in the 60m hurdles at the Liberty Open finishing ninth running 9.62. Also competed in the long jump where she finished 13th with a mark of 5.02m.

Nicole Gysin, St. Thomas Aquinas (Jr - Waldwick, N.J.)
Gysin took a fourth place finish at the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights Open in the 60 meter hurdles (Unseeded College), clocking in at 10.10.

Bianca Hiltz, Queens (Sr - Southwick, Mass.)
Hiltz placed fifth in the women's 55 meter hurdles at the DeSchriver Invitational with a career-best time of 9.42 overtaking her previous best of 10.03 set on Dec. 8, 2019, in the Knights Indoor Classic. In the women's high jump, Hiltz placed 13th with a season-best jump of 10.86m., while just falling short of matching career-best in the long jump as she earned sixth place with a jump of 4.87m.

Jazmine Severo, Staten Island (Fr - Merced, Calif.)
Severo bested her own CSI record and ECC-leading mark of 1.61m in the High Jump at the DeSchriver Invitational on Sunday with a height of 1.63m. This earned her first place at the meet and maintained her spot atop the conference standings in the event.

ECC Team Notes

Daemen: Daemen took part in the Brockport Multi Invitational this past Saturday. The women placed seventh out of 16 teams, while the men finished 15th out of 18. Graduate student Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ontartio) paced the Wildcats once again, as she posted a second place showing in the 3,000 meters and a fourth-place effort in the 800 meters. Nolet ran the 3,000 meters for the first time this season and placed second out of 32 runners with a personal best time of 10:33.14. She ran the 800 meters at an indoor event for the first time in her career and placed fourth out of 33 runners with a time of 2:22.16?just two seconds shy of the program record (2:20.48) set by Savannah Warner at the 2018 East Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. Nolet has run six races this season and has placed in the top four in all six races. Daemen is now idle until the ECC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 19.

District of Columbia: The Firebirds were idle this week but will be back in action this weekend for the Pre-Nationals meet.

Molloy: The Lions competed at the Scarlet Knight Open at the Armory. The men's program record for the long jump (6.83 meters) was set by freshman Jason Ferguson while the team of Juan Arango, Schynder Germain, Eric Anderson, and Gianni Macchio set a new 4x200-meter record time of 1:32.52.

Queens: The Knights competed in the DeSchriver Invitational Sunday afternoon which saw several Knights set new individual benchmarks to break. Queens is off until the ECC Championship to be hosted in Staten Island on Feb. 19.

Roberts Wesleyan: Roberts competed at the Brockport Multi Meet over the weekend. The team will head to NCCAA Championships and the Grand Valley State Big Meet this upcoming weekend.

Staten Island: The Dolphins competed in the DeSchriver Invitational on Sunday in a meet that was once again highlighted by the performance of Jazmine Severo in the High Jump. She bested her CSI record and ECC-leading height of 1.61m with a height of 1.63m in another first-place effort this week.
