Wilmington Women’s Soccer Blanked at Bridgeport, 3-0

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - - The Wilmington University women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 nonconference match-up on the road at Bridgeport on Wednesday night at Knights Field.

With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 1-4 overall on the season while the Purple Knights improve to 4-1 with the victory.

Junior goalkeeper Julia Brown recorded 11 saves in net for the Wildcats, but it wasn't enough at the Knight registered a goal in the first half and added two more in the second half to take the home win.

Senior Monica Weil put both of her shots on goal to lead the Wildcats, but it was the Purple Knights that kept the pressure on the Wilmington defense all match long. Bridgeport went on to outshoot the Wildcats, 24-5, for the match.

Bridgeport goalkeeper Julia Hansson picked up her third shutout of the season, making three save in net.

The game-winning goal came off the foot of Julia Weidenmark as she tallied her third goal of the season with just over three minutes to play in the first half.

The Wildcats return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Saturday, as they head to Concordia for a bout with the Clippers starting at 12 p.m.
