Firebirds Fall to Lions on the Road

LAKEWOOD, NJ- The University of the District of Columbia's men's lacrosse team fell to Georgian Court, 4-22 Saturday afternoon. The Firebirds fell to 0-2 on the season and the Lions improved to 2-3.

Carnell Lofton Jr. won 20-30 face-offs and grabbed a game-high 14 ground balls, while dishing out an assist. Najee Wilson made a game-high 19 saves and Julian Schemm scored a team-high two goals. Maxwell Hansberry and Jordan Schemm also added a goal each. 

The Firebirds were held scoreless for majority of the first half, with the Lions going on a 12-0 run. A feed from Matthew Miller to Schemm with 6:52 to go in the second quarter, resulted in a goal that helped to stop the bleeding. 

The second half proved better for the Firebirds as they were able to find the back of the net three more times.

UDC, despite winning majority of the face-offs were plagued by a total of 34 turnovers, compared to Georgian Courts 19. The home team picked up 61 ground balls compared to the visiting Firebirds 37.

UDC (0-2, 0-0 ECC) will host Dominican University next Saturday at Georgetown Day School, with a noon tip-off time.
