MANSFIELD, PA. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's soccer team earned its third consecutive shutout victory, blanking Mansfield University 3-0 in a non-conference match on Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore
Kara Choate opened the scoring for Roberts (5-1), sending a 25-yard shot into the top corner of the Mansfield net for her first goal of the season in the 19
th minute.
Choate also factored in the Redhawks' second score as her cross deflected off a Mansfield defender in front of the net for an own goal in the 33
rd minute.
Sophomore
Courtney Felton converted a penalty kick for her second goal of the season with 12:58 remaining to close out the scoring.
Roberts held a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. Senior
Nicolette Knauf made three saves to record her second shutout of the season.
"It was a solid performance by the team today," Roberts coach
Sarah McClellan said. "We are looking forward to continued improvement and returning home for Homecoming."
The Redhawks have outscored their opponents 9-0 during their current win streak.
Roberts returns to action for an East Coast Conference match against D'Youville at 1 p.m. Saturday. Seniors
Gabrielle Ciambella, Knauf and
Jessica Savage will be honored prior to the contest on Homecoming Weekend.
