BASEBALL SPLITS TWINBILL WITH MERCY COLLEGE
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. (3/21/21) The Dominican College baseball squad split a non-conference double-header with host, Mercy College in games played today at Mercy Field. DC picked up the 4-0 shut out win in the opener, while the Mavericks took home the 6-4 win in the nightcap.

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. (3/21/21) The Dominican College baseball squad split a non-conference double-header with host, Mercy College in games played today at Mercy Field. DC picked up the 4-0 shut out win in the opener, while the Mavericks took home the 6-4 win in the nightcap.
With the split, Dominican is now 4-2 on the season.
Game One: The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Chargers struck for three runs. Centerfielder Christian Fils-Aime (North Babylon, N.Y.) started things off with a sacrfice fly ball to right field which scored Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.). A two-run single off the bat of second basemen Ryan Ruziecki (Lincroft, N.J.) gave DC the 3-0 lead.
Dominican added a run in the top of the seventh on the RBI double down the right field line off the bat of third basemen Richard Paulino (San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic) for the 4-0 lead and eventual win.
Colon finished the game with two hits, while Ruziecki had two RBI.
Freshman Justin Diaz (Coral Springs, Fla.) picked up the complete game victory, scattering four hits and striking out two batters.
Game Two: Dominican took the early 1-0 lead in the first on the ground-ruled double from Colon which brought home Ruziecki.
The Mavericks got on the scoreboard in their half of the first with two runs on two hits for their first lead of the day, 2-1.
DC countered in the top of the second inning with a two-run single down the left field line off the bat of second basemen Carmine Giordano (New Rochelle, N.Y.) to regain a 3-2 edge.
Mercy tied the game in the third on a sacrifie fly, but once again the Charger offense answered in their next at-bat as Derek Langfelder (Wyckoff, N.J.) scored Giordano on a sacrifice fly ball to left field.
MC re-tied the score in the fifth on a ground out and added two runs in the sixth on two hits for the 6-4 win.
Giordano finished the game with two hits and two RBI.
Reliever Cole Fancher (Gilboa, N.Y.) suffered the loss in one inning of work.
Dominican is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play at Caldwell University.
