Firebirds Drop Home Opener to Chargers

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's men's lacrosse team fell to Dominican University 8-21, Saturday afternoon at the Georgetown Day Field. The Firebirds fell to 0-3 on the season, while the Chargers improved to 2-4.

Carnell Lofton Jr. won 29-31 face-offs and picked up a game-high 23 ground balls while dishing out an assist. Dylan Donaldson led the Firebirds with four goals on 11 shots, while picking up six groundd balls. Julian Schemm had four points off three goals and an assist and Jordan Schemm dished out two assists, while picking up seven ground balls. Najee Wilson also made a game-high 22 saves. 

The Chargers got off to a 9-0 start, as the Firebirds were held scoreless in the first quarter. Donaldson was able to stop the bleeding, putting UDC on the scoreboard with 12:08 remaining in the second quarter. The duo of Donaldson and Schemm combined for what turned out to be UDC's best offensive quarter with four goals.

Coming off half-time the visitors outscored the home team 4-1 in the third quarter, after UDC turned the ball over nine times, while only managing to take four shots. 

The Firebirds managed to hold the Chargers to just four goals, while scoring three of their own in the fourth quarter, to finish off strong.

UDC picked up more ground balls (47-27), but was plagued by turnovers (30-12). The visiting Chargers outshot the Firebirds 64-33, with majority of their shots coming from the third quarter (20-4).   

UDC (0-3, 0-0 ECC) is back at Georgetown Day Field next Saturday (18th) as they host Chestnut Hill at noon.
