STAC Men's Volleyball Claims First Win In Program History

Hillburn, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Volleyball team made history on Saturday afternoon, claiming the program's first ever victory with a 3-0 sweep of Russell Sage College at the Joseph T. St. Lawrence Community Center (Torne Valley Sports Complex).

STAC improves to 1-7 on the season, while Sage falls to 0-5 on the year.

How it Happened

  • As a team, STAC recorded 31 kills compared to Sage's 17. The Spartans also had a eight blocks and 28 assists, while the Gators tallied five blocks and 17 assists.
  • Gabriel Vieira (OH/OPP) paced the Spartans offense with a match-high nine kills on Saturday. He also registered three digs.
  • Joaquin La Jara (S) recorded a team-high four digs apiece in the match. La Jara also had one kill and one block assist.
  • Kyran Versteegen (S) and Joaquin La Jara tallied 12 serve assists (4.0 assists/set) apiece. Versteegan also accumulated four kills, three service aces, two digs and four block assists for the maroon and gold.
  • James Feuchtgruber (MB) led the maroon and gold defense at the net with five block assists on the afternoon.
  • Nicholas Santos (OH/OPP) racked up three kills, one service ace and two digs for the Spartans.
  • Cesar Contreras (OH/OPP) picked up six kills, a dig and a solo assist. He also had a team-best .545 hitting percentage.
