Haye Posts Double-double in Firebirds Loss to Wildcats

AMHERST, N.Y. -The University of the District of Columbia's men's basketball team fell to Daemen University 67-79, Sunday afternoon at Lumsden Gymnasium. The Firebirds fell to 6-6 in conference play and drops to 5th in the standings, while the Wildcats improve to 8-4 to secure their third place spot.

Hartnel Haye, Jahmir Marable-Williams and Michael Aiken led the Firebirds with 15 points apiece. Haye posted a double-double also pulling down 11 rebounds to go with his 15 points. Marable-Williams had a game-high seven assists and four steals.

UDC came out blazing going on a 5-0 run in the opening two minutes and leading by as much as seven with a little under 12:30 to go. The rest of the half saw a few lead changes and a tie, with the Wildcats pulling away to a 38-32 lead going into half time.

The second half started with Daemen shooting a pair of free throws and knocking down a trey. They became deadly from behind the arc , leading by as much as 21 points with under five to go. The Firebirds rallied to get the lead down to as low as 12 but their efforts werent enough as Daemen walked away with the 79-67 victory. 

UDC shot at 32.5% compared to Daemen's 48.3%. The difference maker came from behing the arc as the Wildcats shot at 55% knokcing down 11 three pointers. Daemen had the edge on rebounds 42-38 and more points in the paint 36-30. While the Firebirds managed to force more turnovers 10-6, the points converted from those turnovers were only two more than the Wildcats.

Next Up, UDC (8-12, 6-6 ECC) is back home on Wednesday evening, hosting Molloy University at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex Gymnasium. Tip-off time is set for 7:30PM.
