Wilson Posts Career High 30 Saves in Firebirds Season Opener

WEST CALDWELL, N.J- The University of the District of Columbia's men's lacrosse team fell to Caldwell University 8-18 in a hard fought season opener, Saturday afternoon at the Essex Valley Field. The Firebirds fell to 0-1 on the season while the Cougars improved to 1-0.

Goalkeeper, Najee Wilson put in some serious work in the net, making an impressive career high 30 saves. Carnell Lofton Jr. picked up a game high 14 ground balls and won 21-29 face-offs, while picking up two points off a goal and an assist. Dylan Donaldson had a team high three goals and Julian Schemm and Jordan Schemm each added two goals of their own. In their first-ever lacrosse game Thomas Cecil, Gabreleul Yacob and Shelton Tessier each picked up a ground ball.

Despite this being more than have the team's first game, the Firebirds were able to stand strong. The first quarter seemed to be the biggest learning curve for UDC, as Caldwell had their best scoring, with eight goals compared to the Firebirds 1. But as the game went on, UDC managaed to hold their own, scoring triple the points in the second half than they did in the first.

Next Up, UDC (0-1) will head back to N.J on March 4th to take on CACC member Georgian Court. Tip-off is set for noon.
