Solid Shooting Leads Firebirds to Victory over Knights; Marable-Williams Scores 1,000th Career Point

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's men's basketball team defeated Queens College 72-60, Saturday afternoon at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex Gymnasium. The Firebirds improved to 3-3 in league play while the Knights fell to 2-4.

Michael Aiken led all scorers with 21 points going 8-13 from the field while also grabbing team highs of six rebounds, five assists and five steals. Jahmir Marable-Williams scored his 1,000th career point adding 14 points, four assists and three steals. Tevin Curtis came off the bench to add 10 points and two steals and Eric Morgan Jr added nine points going 4-6 from the field. 

It was a slow offenisve start for both teams with the first few points coming at 17:45, with a layup from Aiken. As the game went on UDC picked up heat, going on a run that gave them the 35-26 lead going into half time. 

While the Knights picked up their offense in the second half to challenge the Firebirds, UDC had an answer as Aiken scored 19 of his 21 points in that time. Nicolaus Kenton also went 3-3 from the field scoring six points. The Firebirds led by as much as 15 points in the second half, and the Knights managed to shave that deficit down to 12.

UDC shot at 55.4% from the field while holding the Knights to 36.5%. The Firebirds forced more turnovers 21-14, and was able to convert more points off said turnovers 21-11. The visiting Knights did, however manage to pull more boards 40-28.

Up Next, UDC(5-10, 3-3 ECC) will head to Rochester, N.Y. on Monday to face off against Roberts Wesleyan at 6:00 PM.
