STAC Women's Soccer Falls to Daemen, 1-0

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team fell to Daemen University in a tightly-contested 1-0 affair on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field.

STAC dropped to 2-7-1 overall and 1-3 in the ECC, while Daemen picked up its first victory of the season and improved to 1-8-1 and 1-2 in conference play.

The first 33 plus minutes of action saw the the visiting Wildcats hold a 5-2 shots advantage, with three of those chances being stopped by Spartans keeper Colleen Stevens.

Daemen would find the first goal of the game off of a turnover by Stevens, with Tatyjana Scalisi putting the misdirected shot to the back of the net in the 34th minute. The game returned to its strict form for the final 11 minutes, with the Wildcats adding two more shots and a corner kick and the Spartans recording one shot as the teams went into halftime with a 1-0 score.

When the teams returned for second half action, Daemen continued to put on the offensive pressure in the hopes of expanding its slim margin. The Wildcats posted seven shots to the Spartans three in the stanza, but could not solve Colleen Stevens. Stevens would make back-to-back spectacular saves in the 87th minute to keep the deficit to just one and give her teammates a chance to rally. Unfortunately, time would not be on the side of St. Thomas Aquinas and the visitors from Western New York would run out the clock to earn their first victory of the 2022 campaign.
