
GUERRA LEADS LADY CHARGERS TO VICTORY OVER FIREBIRDS
Sparkill, N.Y. (11/8/19) Dominican College junior guard Korina Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) led all scorers with 24 points as the Lady Chargers defeated the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia, 76-69, this evening in game two at the 2019 STAC Challenge, hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College.

(11/8/19) Dominican College junior guard Korina Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) led all scorers with 24 points as the Lady Chargers defeated the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia, 76-69, this evening in game two at the 2019 STAC Challenge, hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College.
Guerra went 7-10 from the floor, 5-9 from the three-point arc and added five points off free throws to lead Dominican (1-0) to their first victory over the season.
Senior Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) added 20 points, six rebounds and three blocks, while Khay'la Latimer (Teaneck, N.J.) contributed 13 points.
UDC led 24-16 after one quarter of play, but the Lady Chargers cut the deficit to two points at halftime by outscoring their opponents, 15-9 int he second frame.
The Firebirds led 42-36 with a little over seven minutes left in the third quarter when the DC offense came alive with 11 unanswered points to pull ahead, 47-42 with under three minutes reamaining in the quarter. A Jaid Harrell (Kingston, N.Y.) free throw with 29 ticks left gave Dominican the 50-46 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
Dominican would lead by as many as eight points (65-57) with four and a half remaining when UDC rallied with six straight points to cut the lead to 65-63. Following a Lady Charger time out, both teams traded baskets and then DC used a 7-2 run to rebuild a 74-67 lead with under a minute to play. Guerra would close out the game by going 2-2 from the charity stripe for the win.
The Lady Chargers out rebounded the Firebirds, 41-33 and held a 6-1 advantage in blocks.
Halia Ellis and Alexus King led the Firebirds with 15 points each.
DC will take on St. Thomas Aquinas College tomorrow at 5pm in the finale of the 2019 STAC Challenge.
