UDC Women’s Tennis Picks Up First Loss of the Season to Jefferson University
PHILADELPHIA, PA- The University of the District of Columbia's women's tennis team picked up their first loss of the season, falling to Jefferson University 2-5. The Firebirds move to 3-1 on the season, while the Rams improved to 11-2.
The Rams picked up the doubles point after sweeping all three matches to give them the 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.
Jefferson extended that lead to 3-0 after securing wins at No.4 and 3. But UDC would not make it easy for them, as Simoné Pärn and Célia Bastin won their matches at No. 1 and 5 to bring the score to 2-3.
At the No. 2 position Mariona Franco fell 6(3)-7 in the first round but bounced back to take the second set 7(1)-6 forcing a third set. Franco eventually conceded to the score of 4-6, with Rams clinching the match. Jefferson went on to win the No.6 point as well to bring the final score to 5-2.
UDC (3-1, 1-0 ECC) is back in action next weekend as they travel to N.Y. to face off against ECC foes Damen College and D'Youville University on the 14th and 15th.
