Bridgeport Volleyball Battles Back To Top Bentley, 3-2, And Give Head Coach Gary Mullin His 100th Career Victory
Down Two Sets To None UB Rallies To Earn The Victory
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team came back from being down two sets to none to post a thrilling, comeback home triumph over the visiting Bentley University Falcons, 3-2, (19-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-9) on Tuesday night in Hubbell Gym. With the win, UB remains unbeaten on the season at 7-0, and the victory is also number 100 in the career of head coach Gary Mullin. With the loss, Bentley is now 5-4 on the 2019 season.
Senior Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) led the Purple Knights' offense with a match-leading 20 kills, and she finished with a double-double, as she also notched 14 digs in the five sets.
Sophomore Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) added 13 digs for the winners and led UB at the net with five blocks.
Morgan Knight (Sr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) rounded out the UB players with double-digit kills on the night with 10, and she fell just shy of her own double-double with nine digs. Classmate Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) was steady all evening long for UB amassing 20 digs, slamming nine kills and adding three service aces.
Sophomore setter Carly Killorin (Centennial, Colo.) recorded his fourth double-double in seven matches so far this season with a match-high 48 assists and 13 digs.
Junior Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) was all over the court on defense for UB recording a team-best 28 of her squad's 110 digs in the contest. Johnson also chipped in four service aces on the night to lead the Purple Knights,
Sophomore Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) finished with 19 digs on Tuesday and added three service aces to aid the Bridgeport rally.
The UB volleyball team is right back in action on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights, who will play six matches in five days this week, travel to Long Island to take on Adelphi University. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
