Women's Soccer Completes Winning Weekend With 2-0 Decision Over Lake Erie

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's soccer team capped off a successful weekend with a 2-0 victory over Lake Erie College this afternoon at Karrer Field. Daemen, which rolled to a 6-1 win over the College of Staten Island on the same field yesterday, is now unbeaten over its last four games and improved to 3-3-1 on the year. The visiting Storm dropped to 1-5-1.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The game featured limited scoring chances at both ends of the field until the hosts broke the stalemate in the 35th minute. Junior Alyssa Diaz (Rochester, N.Y.) created the scoring chance when she stole the ball from a Lake Erie defender and slid a centering pass to sophomore Kylie Miranto (North Toanwanda, N.Y.). Miranto made one move and then blasted shot past LEC freshman netminder Morgan Vanmeter from 20 yards out.
  • Daemen entered halftime with a 1-0 lead and doubled its lead 11 minutes into the second half. Freshman Magda Carpenter (Lebanon, Conn.) collected a loose ball near midfield and eventually sent a pass to fifth-year senior Tatyjana Scalisi (Williamsville, N.Y.) just outside the Lake Erie box. Scalisi lofted a shot over Vanmeter from 25 yards out for her first goal of the year.
  • The Daemen defense took over after that, as the Wildcats limited the Storm to just three total shots and one shot on goal the rest of the game.
  • The Wildcats registered a 13-6 edge in total shots and a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Sophomore Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.), the reigning East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, went the distance in goal for the Wildcats and made two saves en route to her second shutout of the season. Vanmeter made two saves for the Storm.
