Firebirds Best Wildcats 6-1 to Secure First Conference Win of the Season
AMHERST, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia's men's tennis team picked up their first conference victory of the season after defeating Daemen University 6-1, Saturday night at the Miller Tennis Center.
The doubles point came down to the No.3 spot, as the Wildcats took the win at No.2 and the Firebirds won at No.1 The duo of Antonio Simo Durall and Juan Estevez Hernandez battled to a 7-6(3) victory to secure the point going into singles play.
Daemen was able to tie the game up 1-1 picking up the first singles win at No.5. The rest of the match, however , was all Firebirds as they went on to win the next five. Hernandez clinched the winning point at No.4, forcing a third set, after dropping the first set 4-6 and winning the second and third, 6-3, 6-1.
Mauricio Corty also had a three set affair at the No.3 spot, taking the first set 6-1 before falling 3-6 in the second. He went on to win the tiebreaker 7-5, to pick up his first conference win of the year.
Up Next, UDC (4-8, 1-1 ECC) will host Queens College in a rematch on Monday at 1:00 pm.
