Men's Volleyball Drops Five-Set Heartbreaker to Dominican, 3-2

Blauvelt, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Volleyball team traveled across town to visit their Rockland County rivals Dominican University in a Friday night East Coast Conference match at the Hennessy Center. Despite forcing a fifth and deciding set against the Chargers, the Spartans fell short 3-2.

STAC moves to 3-10 overall and 1-1 in ECC play, while Dominican improves to 6-6 and 1-0.

How it Happened

  • As a team, STAC recorded 55 kills compared to Dominican's 49. The Spartans also had a 9.5 blocks and 53 assists, while the Chargers tallied 7 blocks and 42 assists.
  • Andre Cippiciani (OH/OPP) paced the Spartans offense with a team-high 17 kills on Friday. He also registered 10 digs and three block assists.
  • Thomas Santos (L) and Nicholas Santos (OH/OPP) recorded a team-high 10 digs apiece in the match. Thomas also had six assists, while Nicholas accrued 14 kills and four service aces.
  • Kyran Versteegen (S) tallied 45 serve assists (9.0 assists/set), four kills, two service aces, six digs and three block assists for the maroon and gold.
  • Gabriel Vieira (OH/OPP) racked up 10 kills, two service aces, five digs and four block assists for the Spartans.
  • David Weiss (MB) picked up four kills, a dig and five block assists on the evening.
