STAC Softball Splits Twin Bill with Saint Anselm in 2023 Home Opener

Sparkill, N.Y. - Eliana Raposo's walk-off homer gave St. Thomas Aquinas College a dramatic 2-1 win over Saint Anselm College on Wednesday in the first game of a non-conference softball game at Spartan Field. Saint Anselm won the second game, 6-5, in nine innings.

The doubleheader split evened STAC's record at 7-7 while Saint Anselm moved to 10-6.

Raposo, a freshman from Wareham, Mass., led off the seventh inning with her first collegiate home run over the left field fence. The homer broke open a terrific pitching duel between STAC's Abbie Landrum and Haile Hicks. Landrum allowed five hits and fanned six in earning her third victory of the season. Haile struck out 10 in her first loss in eight decisions.

Two other freshmen helped produce STAC's first run to erase a 1-0 deficit. After DeAnna DeCaro reached on an error, fellow freshman Adriana Coira tripled into the right field corner to send her home.

In the second game, Saint Anselm rallied from a 6-0 deficit with a six-run rally in the sixth inning. Coira scored two runs and Carissa Della Vecchia drove in two runs.

STAC heads to New Jersey to battle Felician University in a Sunday afternoon (March 26) non-conference doubleheader at Palisades Park. First pitch of game one is set for 2:30 p.m. with game two getting underway around 4:30 p.m.
