Della Vecchia Registers Her 500th Career Strikeout in STAC's Doubleheader with Molloy

Sparkill, N.Y. - Carissa Della Vecchia became the first pitcher in program history to record 500 strikeouts today in the second game of an East Coast Conference doubleheader against Molloy University at Spartan Field.

Della Vecchia entered the game with 494 strikeouts and logged eight strikeouts to surpass the elite mark. The game was suspended after eight innings because of darkness with the score tied 1-1. The game will be resumed on April 25 before the teams are scheduled to play again at the RVC Sports Complex in Rockville Centre. Della Vecchia also drove in the only run for STAC.

Molloy won the first game, 8-7, on Alex Burns' three-run homer with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to culminate a furious seven-run rally. 

STAC (12-9 overall, 5-2 ECC) visits Queens College on Saturday, April 8 for a twin bill with the Knights that gets underway at 12:00 p.m.
