Pitching Propels Pace to Twin Bill Sweep

Pleasantville, N.Y. - Pace University rode the pitching performances of Gisselle Garcia and Anna Acevedo to 2-1 and 5-2 wins over visiting St. Thomas Aquinas College today in non-conference softball action at the Pace Softball Field.

The game one win was the 800th career victory for Pace Head Coach Claudia Stabile. Pace has won nine of its last 10 games.

The tandem of Garcia and Acevedo limited STAC to just seven hits in the doubleheader. In the first game, the Setters scored the winning run in the first game on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning. STAC's Abbie Landrum pitched well and teammate Emilie Olivier had a double.

Pace built a 3-1 lead in the second game and withstood a STAC rally to hold on to the win. For STAC, Tara Hagan had a pair of doubles to lead the offense.

The pair of wins lifted Pace's record to 18-14, while STAC's four-game win streak was snapped and fell to 16-11. STAC travels to Caldwell University on Friday (April 14) in another non-conference twin bill that starts at 2 p.m.
