Mitchell Scores Four Goals in Firebirds Loss to Wildcats

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's women's lacrosse team fell to the Daemen University Wildcats, Friday afternoon at the Georgetown Day School Field. The Firebirds fell to 0-3 in conference play, while the Wildcats improved to 1-0.

Michelle Mitchell led the Firebird offense with four goals off of five shots. Alejandra Lainez-Rodriguez registered five points on four assists and a goal while picking up a team high seven ground balls, four draw controls, and forcing two turnovers. Jada Williams rounded out scoring for the Firebirds adding two goals of her own.

UDC was left scoreless in the opening eight minutes while DU went on a 5-0 run. Williams broke the scoring drought, winning a draw control which led to a fast break straight to the goal. The Firebirds went on to score two goals a period, except for the final quarter where Rodriquez scored their lone goal.

The Wildcats won 22 draw controls compared to the Firebirds nine. UDC went 8-11 on clears and Daemen 17-18.

Up Next, UDC (1-8, 0-3 ECC) will head to Rochester next Saturday to face off against Roberts Wesleyan, with a kick off time of 2:00pm.
