FLUSHING, N.Y. – Continuing their homestand to begin the 2023 season, the Queens College women's volleyball team welcomed the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University to Fitzgerald Gymnasium in non-conference play.
In a match that featured 16 ties and six lead exchanges, the Knights would fall 3-0
(Set Scores: 25-18, 25-17, 25-22) to the Ravens.

In the early going of the first set, Queens would jump ahead 10-5 as juniors
Alicia Cervera (Valencia, Spain), Christina Franco (Lynbrook, N.Y.), and sophomore
Kendall Conrad (Carolltown, PA) combined for seven kills.
But the visitors would rally back going on a 12-4 run as they took a 17-14 lead. Queens would attempt a comeback to get within three 21-18 on another kill from Franco. However, the Ravens would take the first set to the score of 25-18 as Queens trailed 1-0.
The Knights would jump ahead in the early going of the second set using a 4-0 run to take a lead of 5-3 before both sides traded leads.
But 10 attacking errors in the second set would hurt the Knights comeback as they found themselves trailing 2-0 dropping the set to the score of 25-17.
Looking to get back in the match Queens came out swinging in the third set as Conrad and Cervera combined for six kills as the Knights jumped ahead 8-2 forcing a Ravens timeout.
But a Ravens 9-3 run would see the visitors tie the third set at 11-11 before both sides traded runs.
With the Knights leading 13-11, three attacking errors would see the home side trail 15-13 before Queens went on their own 4-0 run to reclaim a 17-15 advantage.
It would be a day of errors as the Knights were unable to take advantage. A Ravens 5-0 run would see the visitors take a 20-17 lead before Queens tied the set at 20-20.
The third set saw six ties and three lead changes and with the score tied at 22-22, Ravens used a 3-0 run to complete the Saturday afternoon sweep over Queens to the final score of 25-23.
Match Highlights
- For the third match in a row, Conrad led the match recording a match-high 10 kills to go with eight digs.
- Cervera recorded an early season-high of eight kills, while Franco notched seven kills and 10 digs.
- Junior Debbie Boudouris (Athens, Greece) recorded a match-high 24 assists.
- Sophomore Sarah Munn (Torrance, CA) notched a team-high 15 digs.

Stefan Leger and the Knights open a four-match road stand on Tuesday (Sept. 5) afternoon beginning with a trip to Caldwell, N.J. with a matchup against Caldwell University Cougars. First serve set for 6:00 p.m.
