Men's Tennis Takes Down Yeshiva for 10th Straight Win

Bronx, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team pushed its current win streak to 10 straight matches on Thursday evening, as the maroon and gold shutout Yeshiva University 7-0 at the Cary Leeds Center.

STAC claimed the doubles point via a sweep of all three matches. Ivan Laiz and Alberto Espinosa Navarro blanked Mark Adler and Jose Hambra, 8-0, followed by Don Vinz Lominoque and Tobias Fuerschuss shutting out Yoni Mayer and Joshua Deutsch, 8-0. Odysseas Papaioannou and Ludovico Truffelli closed out pairs play with an 8-1 triumph over Michael Natkin and Eitan Jeselsohn.

When the teams transitioned to singles action, it was more of the same from the Spartans, who took all six contests and only lost two total games. First Don Vinz Lominoque took a straight sets victory over Eitan Jeselsohn 6-0, 6-0. Then, Ivan Laiz beat Mark Adler 6-1, 6-0, followed by another straight sets blanking by Alberto Espinosa Navarro over Israel Bussu to clinch the team victory. Tony Khamassi (6-0, 6-0) over Joshua Deutsch, Lennart Lehmann (6-0, 6-0) over Yoni Mayer and Ondrej Sramek (6-1, 6-0) over Michael Natkin continued to battle to keep the Maccabees off of the scoreboard from start to finish.

Don Vinz Lominoque, Ivan Laiz and Alberto Espinosa Navarro all went 2-0 on the evening, winning both their doubles and singles matches. Laiz was also named the Most Impactful player of the Match by the Spartans' coaching staff.

THE ROCKHILL REPORT

"The team played well today and was very stingy with respect to giving up free points", stated Coach Dan Rockhill.

"I was impressed with our focus as we have been emphasizing the need to play at a certain level without many peaks and valleys. The entire team had a hand in today's win but Ivan was our Most Impactful Player. He played with intensity and was hitting the forehand with command in both singles and doubles."

"A lot of people have been talking to me about our match with Queens tomorrow as they are a very good team", remarked Rockhill.  "They are nationally ranked and have a ton of talent. Our approach will be the same as it is for every match and we should be ready to play."
