Spartans Open Western New York Road Trip with 3-0 Setback to Daemen

Amherst, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Volleyball team hit the road for a two-match weekend series in Western New York, with the maroon and gold first taking on Daemen University on Friday evening at Lumsden Gymnasium.

The NEC-leading Wildcats took a three-set sweep of the Spartans to improve to 6-2 overall on the year, while STAC slips to 1-8 on the season.

How it Happened

  • As a team, Daemen recorded 40 kills compared to STAC's 19. The Wildcats also had a 7.5 blocks and 36 assists, while the Spartans tallied four blocks and 19 assists.
  • Nicholas Santos (OH/OPP) paced the Spartans offense with eight kills in the match. He also registered five digs.
  • Thomas Santos (L) recorded a team-high six digs apiece on the evening.
  • Kyran Versteegen (S) also tallied 12 serve assists (4.0 assists/set), two kills, one service ace, three digs and a block assist for the maroon and gold.
  • Andre Cippiciani (OH/OPP) racked five kills and three digs.
  • Gabriel Vieira (OH/OPP) picked up four kills, a dig and a block assist for the Spartans.
