West Babylon, N.Y. - The East Coast Conference announced the recipients of its Academic Team of Excellence Awards for the 2017-18 academic year on Thursday afternoon.
The ECC Academic Team of Excellence Awards are presented to the team with the highest cumulative grade point average in their respective sport. For the fifth straight year, Molloy College earned the most selections with seven teams honored. University of Bridgeport and NYIT each had three teams win the award, while Mercy College and Roberts Wesleyan College had two apiece.
"Congratulations to the teams that were named as our 2017-18 ECC Academic Teams of Excellence," said ECC Commissioner, Dr. Robert Dranoff. "The Molloy College Lions did another outstanding job again this year, with the most teams honored for the fifth year in a row. It is our pleasure to help recognize all the teams that earned this important award
A total of eight teams teams repeated as winners of the award. Three teams, Bridgeport softball and volleyball, and Molloy baseball have now won the award in all six seasons of its existence. Also repeating as winners are the Molloy men's cross country, Mercy men's lacrosse, NYIT men's and women's tennis, and Felician women's bowling teams.
NYIT women's tennis team compiled the highest team GPA for the second straight year with a mark of 3.82. Overall, 81 percent of all ECC teams maintained a GPA of 3.0 and above.
